Movie News: Alien Kicks Butt, Boy George Gets A Biopic, and More Barbie?

Alien: Romulus kicked ass at the box office, taking the #1 spot from Deadpool & Wolverine. Deadpool & Wolverine still took #2 position, followed by Blake Lively’s It Ends with Us, and Twister. The multi-celebrity led Borderlands (based on the video game) didn’t have far to slip and yet, it did. It fell a dramatic 72% in its second weekend, not even making the Top 5. Ouch!

In a surprise win, the release of Coraline in select theaters made it to #5. The film has gained a cult after the fact. The film was originally released in 2009.

New Beetlejuice clips have been released ahead of the movie’s debut date of September 6th. It’s a little odd to release full-scene clips, but they did it! We are still reeling from the fact that the original film came out 36 years ago. Oy. Take a look, and let us know what you think of these scenes!

Steven Spielberg is returning to UFOs for his next movie. Rumored to be titled The Dish, it will star Emily Blunt. Now, it looks like Colin Firth is in talks to join the film. Spielberg’s past UFO projects include E.T., Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and War of the Worlds, to critical and audience acclaim.

Were you a fan of the TV show Community? After ten years in rumored development, the movie version continues to move forward and main cast member Yvette Nicole Brown has finally confirmed that she is joining other original cast members Donald Glover, Joel McHale, Ken Jeong, Alison Brie, and more. Filming has been postponed because of the strike, but it is happening!

Glen Powell is certainly having his moment at the movies. Not only did he make a splash in the Top Gun sequel, this stud has had some great box-office success, including the current Twisters. It was rumored that he was going to be a part of a Backdraft reboot, originally starring Kurt Russell. Powell made a statement and said that these rumors were just not true. Too bad, seeing him in a firefighter uniform would have fulfilled even more fantasies.

After some speculation, actor Simu Liu has confirmed that Shang-Chi 2 is definitely happening. Though Marvel hasn’t officially announced it (probably trying to figure out a shooting and release date), the actor says it is coming along.

Actor David Jonsson is earning himself a place in the cinema spotlight. He is currently co-starring in the box office hit Alien: Romulus, and next, he will appear in the Stephen King adaption movie of The Long Walk. He sat down with GQ and revealed that he has had to walk about 14 miles a day for the film. Let’s hope there’s a feet massager machine in his trailer!

Is there more Barbie on the horizon? Apparently, Mattel has been in talks with Illumination (Despicable Me and Minion movies) to create an animated Barbie movie. Original creatives Margot Robbie and director Greta Gerwig are said to be not happy about it. We know that Hollywood loves to grab that cash, and the live-action film was a huge box office and award-season success. It makes sense that they would try to milk that cash cow. Mooooo!

Is Nicolas Cage back on track? He’s had some success over the past couple of years, and his latest film, the horror flick Longlegs, did very well. It was announced that he will be playing NFL legend John Madden in a biopic. We know that Madden was well-loved by football fans, will that translate to a box office win?

In other biopic news, Boy George is getting a movie based on his life, taken from parts of his autobiographies. It will catalog the success of Culture Club and George’s own personal struggles. No casting information as of now.

Robert Pattinson and Jennifer Lawrence are teaming up for a new thriller, Die, My Love. Lawrence will play a mom dealing with mental issues while living out in the middle of nowhere. This is an interesting pairing, let’s see how their chemistry does.
