Movie News: A Ton of New Disney, Star Wars, and the Return of Iron Man?
I'm your Gay News Guy – this is the news, casual, sassy, unfiltered, and a little hungover. Ok here’s this week's MOVIE NEWS as I see it!
Box office numbers are in. Not surprisingly, Deadpool & Wolverine stayed at #1 (hitting the $1 billion mark in three weeks), Blake Lively’s drama It Ends with Us was a fierce #2 (even though not loved by the critics), and surprisingly, Eli Roth’s big budget and A-lister-led movie Borderlands suffered a 4th place debut, making almost a measly $9 million.
Robert Downey Jr. is coming back as Tony Stark/Iron Man! Before you wet your undies, it is just to film content for Disneyland’s attraction expansion with Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab. Will this make it more difficult to reboot Iron Man with a new actor? We know these attractions will be in place for years and years.
In other Marvel news, Channing Tatum says he is in open talks to pursue playing Gambit in the MCU. Spoiler alert: He made a cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine and fans went crazy. There was an origin movie in talks at one point, but who knows if and when he’ll be on screen. In the comic book world, Gambit was supposed to have come out as bisexual. Gurrlll…we need a man-on-man scene with Channing ASAP.
Bridget Jones 4 has wrapped filming and the movie will hit theaters in time for Valentine’s Day in 2025. The originals are back with Renee Zellweger, Emma Thompson, and Hugh Grant. Has too much time passed or are you interested in seeing more?
Spooky Trailer Drop! The teaser trailer for the latest Stephen King adaptation has dropped! The Monkey, directed by Longlegs director Osgood Perkins, is based off of King’s 1980 short story. The movie will star hunky Theo James. Yasssss! Let’s hope the horror aspect is that Theo can’t find a shirt to wear the entire film.
Tom Cruise caused a stir when he swooped in from a plane and landed on stage at the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics. We know he loves to do his own stunts but some were wondering what the hell it had to do with the Olympics? Simple answer, it’s a Hollywood handoff as the Olympics comes to Los Angeles in 2028. Also, it’s not bad PR for his next Mission Impossible film. Hollywood literally controls everything.

Does Disney just need to let it go? There’s a Frozen III and now a Frozen 4 on the way. That’s a lot of snow. Sniff sniff.
Talking about Disney, the trailer dropped for Mufasa, the prequel to Lion King. This will be live-action, well, CGI version of live-action, and many of the main characters in the Beyonce-led Lion King movie will be returning. Oy.
Did we think CGI was getting better? Then explain the new trailer for Disney’s live-action version of Snow White. While the drag queens will gag over Gal Gadot’s Evil Queen, the rest of it looks very fake and doesn’t illicit joy. The dwarves look whack. What is your take? Snow White or Snow Shite?
Also, at D23, the Disney version of an Apple release conference, it was announced there are more Incredibles and Zootopia on the way.
All the gays went gaga over the dance moment in the horror film M3GAN. Well, we know that Hollywood loves dollars and viral moments. M3GAN is getting a spinoff with SOULM8TE. The movie will tell the tale of a widower who tries to create a soulmate through robot/AI to horrific results. Let’s hope this SOULM8TE knows how to boogie!
Another trailer drop! The trailer for the Saturday Night Live origin movie has been released. The film will focus on the airing of the first-ever episode and will feature a young Chevy Chase, Gilda Radner, Lorne Michaels, and Dan Akroyd. It looks pretty good!
Hey gay nerds, there’s a ton of more Star Wars stuff coming your way. There are three major films that will come out between 2026 – 2027 in addition to all the TV stuff happening. The last series, The Acolyte, did not fare so well with critics or fans. Is that too much Star Wars too soon? Is the franchise being diluted?
