US Athlete Stud Trey Cunningham Comes Out
Gurlll...what is happening? The gays are taking over the world of sports! Almost every week for the last couple of months, we have shared news of a new openly queer athlete that will be representing at this summer's Olympics. Just this week, we shared the news that Nico Young will be the first openly gay US track and field Olympic competitor. Hot off the heels of all this recent gay sports news, 25 year old Trey Cunningham, US athlete, has publicly come out.

Cunningham actually came out five years ago to his family and closest friends. In his exclusive chat with the New York Times, he decided to finally open up about his sexuality and says that for the last five years, he's had to live a double life hiding his queer identity. He maintains that there are other athletes out there having to do the same: “There are lots of people who are in this weird space. They’re not out. But it is kind of understood.”

Though Cunningham did not make it to this year's Olympics, he is ranked 11th in the world and did make the 110-meter finals during this year's US Olympic trials. He grew up in Winfield, Alabama, and maintains that it was a very rural and conservative upbringing, and being gay was just not something that was accepted. The day after coming out publicly, he won the 110-meter hurdle at the Hungarian Athletics Grand Prix. He was also named Amateur Athlete of the Year by the Alabama Sports Writers Association.

He competes in international track competitions, and now being openly gay, can be subject to anti-LGBTQ policies in some countries that still see homosexuality as illegal.

In addition to sports, Cunningham, with those chiseled features and tight body, is a Ford model. We hope they continue to put him in a lot of spandex.

Right now, the track and field sector of the Olympics has three queer athletes - Sha’Carri Richardson, Raven Saunders, and Nico Young. This will be the most representation by the queer community at any Olympics!
