Movie News: Exorcist, Brad Pitt, Mission Impossible, & Justice League!
I’m your Gay News Guy – this is the news, casual, sassy, unfiltered, and a little hungover. Ok here’s this week's MOVIE NEWS as I see it!
Despicable Me 4 won at the box office this week, although it was the lowest opening weekend for the franchise. Family movies are doing well, we reported last week how Inside Out 2 has killed it with sales. I hope this doesn’t mean more little brats in the theaters, lol. The franchise’s co-director says there’s no slowing the franchise down as there are plenty more villains and storylines that can keep the movies going.
Hunk alert! The trailer for Brad Pitt’s new film F1 dropped. Pitt plays a race car driver who gets dragged back into the industry after retiring. Does this man age well or what? This is brought to us by the same director of Top Gun: Maverick. Hopefully, there’s a shirtless volleyball scene too. It better do well at the box office because it has one of the biggest budgets ever at $300 million.
Ridley Scott's (Gladiator, Alien, Blade Runner) Freewalkers, a Western film, has been canceled because of…snow? It is set in a snowy environment but because of scheduling, could only be filmed in the summer, and the effects and such to make it a snow city would just be too much. His next film will be a big departure for Scott and will be the biopic of The Bee Gees.
Mike Flanagan has garnered a big name in horror projects. From Doctor Sleep to The Haunting of Hill House, he has added artistic flair to the horror genre. He announced the creation of his new production company, Red Room Pictures, and will be taking on The Exorcist reboot and Stephen King’s The Life of Chuck. The Exorcist: Believer was not a hit at the box office and was a sequel of sorts with returning actors Ellen Burstyn and Linda Blair. Flanagan is shifting gear on the intended Exorcist trilogy reboot and will tell a whole new story for the next iteration.
Nathan Fillion is playing The Green Lantern in the new Superman movie. He dyed his hair blonde and is wearing some tight pants. The first pics of him in costume were leaked this month. So the film will probably have some tie to the Justice League. Damn, he looks good in those pants! Also in Superman news, James Gunn revealed that Christopher Reeve’s son will have a cameo to honor Reeve’s version of Superman.
FIRST LOOK SPOILER ALERT: The Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion) joins Mr. Terrific (Edi Gathegi), Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced) and Superman (David Corenswet) for a high-flying scene in downtown Cleveland. Photos: John Kuntz, https://t.co/WLnOBQdLss pic.twitter.com/vvcXtuBIWG

Speaking of the Justice League, Zack Snyder announced that his version with Gal Gadot, Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, and Jared Leto will have a big theatre release, three years after it was released on Max. Why? It was terrriiiibbbbblllleeee! Do we need to see terrible made bigger?
There’s a new Robin Hood on the horizon. Hugh Jackman will star in a dark retelling of the hero in The Death of Robin Hood and while full of action sequences, the director promises a more intimate story. Jodie Comer (Killing Eve) will also star.
Fan of the X, Pearl, and now MaXXXine films? Creator Ti West says that’s probably all there is for the horror trilogy although he does have an idea for another storyline that would shake up the franchise, but followed up saying it wouldn’t be what he would work on next. The movies have a good strong following, so who knows what’s in store for the future?
After two years of filming, Mission Impossible 8 has finally wrapped. This film has the biggest budget of all the previous films. Let’s hope it’s a win at the box office, the last one was a big lackluster.
After 9 years, we are finally getting Now You See Me 3. The movies about scheming magicians will hit theaters this coming November with the main cast (Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, and Dave Franco) returning. Rosamund Pike (Saltburn) will also be joining the cast.
