For those of us Grindr aficionados, we know that over the last couple of years, there has been a new sexual position designation - "side." What is a side? Coined in 2013, basically put, a side is not a top or bottom or a verse but enjoys all things related to gay foreplay. Butt, uh sorry, but, they will not do anything anally penetrative. Sides are a growing group of gay men who are not afraid to say they are not interested in butt sex.

So what does a side do in the bedroom? Called outercourse, a side engages in manual, oral, and friction stimulation to engage in sexual activity that sides say offer the same emotional, erotic, and physical stimulation that anal sex gives.

As much as the side community is getting an increased voice, there is often an eye roll or stigma towards sides from gay men who choose to engage in anal sex. Sides are seen as lazy. Truth is, some gays just don't enjoy anal sex from either side of the position. There's also the misunderstanding that sides are asexual. Quite the contrary, sides are very sexual and do engage in other acts that result in orgasms. There are other thoughts that sides are suffering from internal homophobia and that having anal sex reminds them that they are gay. Get over it, some guys just don't like butt stuff!

Sides have been coming together on social media, in chat forums, and in-person gatherings. There is no Side Pride yet, but who knows, that could be on the way.

Medically speaking, orgasms may be easier to achieve with side action, so if someone suffers from ED or other health issues that prevent anal sex, here's a way to still celebrate having relations with another man. The Guardian reported a couple of years ago that a study was done by George Mason University in Virginia with 25,000 men who identify as gay or bi.
