Buffalo Bills Helping to Start Gay Football League
Sorry, football conservatives! Slowly but surely the gays are creeping into professional football! We know the NFL certainly isn't the forerunner in LGBTQ inclusion, and finding openly gay footballers is difficult. But little by little we are getting some support and allyship. The Buffalo Bills, in partnership with the National Gay Flag Football League, are sponsoring a new LGBTQ flag football league in Buffalo.

This addition will add to the 27 other cities and over 4,000 players nationwide who have a gay flag football league. The Buffalo Bills are the latest team to support such league efforts. The New England Patriots, the Los Angeles Rams, the New York Giants, and the Seattle Seahawks have all supported their local LGBTQ flag football leagues.
The first national gay flag football league was established in 2002 for the first Gay Bowl in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Boston. Just a few months later, another Gay Bowl popped up with the addition of Atlanta, Chicago, and San Diego.
Of course, with any queer inclusion is going to come the anti-LGBTQ haters.
Ex-ESPN anchor Sage Steele couldn't want to bash the Buffalo Bills efforts.
Soooo…does this mean straight guys are allowed to play in the NGFL?
Kinda like how gay guys are allowed to play in the NFL…and have been for YEARS…..The marketing strategy for this league will be fascinating.
Can’t wait to watch the commercials. https://t.co/o8YLxi5F81— Sage Steele (@sagesteele) June 19, 2024
And conservative influencers jumped on the bashwagon as well.
The Buffalo Bills have just announced they’re helping to launch the National Gay Football League.
Yeah, this is real. I thought it was a freaking parody too. pic.twitter.com/qXp5Xwq7Ao

Last year, CBS Sports presented a short documentary celebrating the LGBTQ involvement in flag football. The production crew involved a number from the queer community on the CBS Sports crew.
This year the NFL hosted queer youth at a flag football clinic in Vegas during Super Bowl week on the field. The event included NFL executives, members of the board of the National Gay Flag Football League, cheerleaders, and former NFL stars. The event was also in support of the Las Vegas LGBTQ Center.

Little by little we are making headway in the typically straight focused sports arena. Happy Pride!
