Movie News: Pixar, Batman, Jurassic World, & more Practical Magic!

I’m your Gay News Guy – this is the news, casual, sassy, unfiltered, and a little hungover. Ok here’s this week's MOVIE NEWS as I see it!

Pixar seems to have gotten out of the slump from Covid. Inside Out 2 was a smash box office success this weekend, making it the highest box office opening for the year, even beating out Dune 2’s debut. It made about $295 million globally. Does this mean people are finally going back to the movies?

In other Pixar news, the studio states that there will never be any live-action remakes of their films, unlike their parent company Disney who seem hell-bent on ruining every animated film with lackluster and unimaginative movies. Cue a sigh of relief.

The script for The Batman – Part II still isn’t completed. No, not that Batman, the other one. No, not that one, the other one, the one with Rob Pattinson. COVID and the writer’s strike are all contributing factors and we won’t likely see a sequel until 2026.

Does 3-D work? 3-D films continue trying to make fetch happen. Inside Out 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine will be released in 3-D and next year, Avatar 3 will also get the 3-D treatment. Will it finally catch on?

Don’t cry for her! JLo seems to be getting a lot of bad press lately. With a canceled tour, a looming divorce, and alleged reports of diva behavior, she just is being run the ringer by the media. Well, don’t throw her a pity party. The salary for her sci-fi Netflix movie Atlas was revealed, at a whopping $16.5 million. Not too shabby. The film, although not a critical success, has been keeping it in the Top 10 on the streaming platform. Our advice, she just needs to lay low for a bit. We love a comeback!

Hollywood, let’s think outside of the box! It was just announced that a film adaptation of 3 Body Problem is in the works for a big-screen treatment. The Netflix TV series just came out this year, and already has seasons 2 and 3 on the way. So, TV and movie series going on at the same time based on the same books? Girl, why?

There’s a Hollywood redo of the Richard Gere classic An Officer and a Gentleman. Miles Teller will take on the Gere character in this movie iteration. There’s something about 1980s movies that just had some magic, can it be rekindled?

We are getting an Uncharted 2 movie. The first film, starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg, wasn’t a critical success (and wasn’t very good) but still brought in over $407 million in box office sales. Unconfirmed if the original stars are coming back.

All the gays, rejoice! Practical Magic 2 is one the way and will have the original leads, Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock, back as the sassy witches. This has become a cult movie among the gays. We can’t wait!

So there are more details regarding the new Jurassic World sequel. Now being referred to as Jurassic City, it is going back to the franchise’s early beginning scaling things way back and featuring a handful of trapped people on an island overrun with dinosaurs. So, basically, the first Jurassic Park film. Got it. Wow, who got paid for that idea?

In a sea of never-ending reboots, we are getting something totally fresh. There’s a new horror film coming to the big screen and it’s told entirely through puppets. Titled Abruptio, it stars Jordan Peele, Freddy Krueger's Robert Englund, and Hollywood vet Christopher McDonald. Check out the trailer, it is creepy!

Mission Impossible 8 is reportedly having major budget issues and is allegedly reaching an all-time high, even though the last movie in the series, Dead Reckoning, lost about $200 million at the box office. Yikes.

Wesley Snipes is throwing some major shade at the Blade reboot starring Mahershala Ali. The reboot movie has been plagued by a number of issues, including two directors leaving the project. Snipes was pretty good as the original movie Blade, but there have been a number of reports from his cast and crew members that he was a nightmare to work with. Girl, don’t be throwing shade when you are under an umbrella.
