The Pope Called Us the "F" Word

Pope Francis looks like a nice enough guy, but he just can't seem to make up his mind about how he wants to treat the LGBTQ community. A few steps forward, a few steps back...are we really getting anywhere in terms of inclusion in the Catholic Church? According to reports, the Pop called us the "F" word at a meeting at the Italian Bishops’ Conference. Hey thanks, man. Right before Pride, too.

Allegedly, the Pope was asked about his stance on whether gay men should be allowed to join the priesthood while, of course, remaining celibate. Apparently, he responded using the word “frociaggine” which can be translated from Italian as our "F" word. He said the Church was already too full of them. Um, are you sure you aren't referring to pedos? Someone leaked this to the Italian press Dagospia and now everyone's in a titter.

The Vatican issued an official statement:

“Pope Francis is aware of the articles recently published about a conversation, behind closed doors, with the bishops of the CEI. As he stated on several occasions, ‘In the Church, there is room for everyone, for everyone! Nobody is useless, nobody is superfluous, there is room for everyone. Just as we are, all of us.’ The Pope never intended to offend or express himself in homophobic terms, and he apologises to those who felt offended by the use of a term reported by others.”

Hmmm...that's a pretty wishy-washy apology and if he used it among his peers, it's pretty clear it is a regular part of his vocabulary. Gurlll, you got caught!

We had high hopes for this Pope, he seems to be the first one to really address the plight of LGBTQ culture and though not fully embracing us, has made strides.

Just last year, he intimated that same-sex marriages could be blessed and that being gay was not a crime. The year prior he encouraged parents of LGBTQ youth to support them without condemnation. He still believes homosexual acts are a crime, but hey, so is premarital sex according to the Church, and that happens plenty. He has previously stated that gays are made that way and have a place in the family. But he also has stated that any current gay priests in the Church worry him. Again, how about all that pedo money you've spent trying to hide that activity? That doesn't worry you?

As someone raised Catholic, I have many things to say about all of this. Have you had your own Church experience?

Happy upcoming Pride Month everyone!
