Movie News: MCU, Star Wars, 90s Horror, Spider-Man, & More!
I’m your Gay News Guy – this is the news, casual, sassy, unfiltered, and a little hungover. Ok here’s today’s MOVIE NEWS MONDAY as I see it!
Oh Trump, you in danger girl! The Sebastian Stan as Donald Trump film The Apprentice is getting a shake-up! Dan Snyder, a billionaire who invested in the film, is demanding a recut of the film because he thought the film was going to be a positive send-up of Trump’s early years. Um, no. Legally, he has no rights as to the content of the film, but apparently, things are getting dicey behind the scenes so who knows if the film will be edited in any way. You don’t really want to fight a billionaire when putting a film out.
There’s a third official Deadpool & Wolverine trailer that just dropped and it shows more action and more tension between the two stars. Now, if we could only get a good love scene between the leads, that would be something!
Apparently, Johnny Depp has been approached about making an appearance in future Pirates of the Caribbean films. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer says he’s talked to him and he’s hopeful the actor will come back at some point, but probably won’t be in the Margot Robbie reboot film.
The new film IF had an interesting opening weekend. It opened way below expectations and Rotten Tomatoes is split. Critics hate it, audiences love it. It was still #1 at the box office. To be honest, the film looks a little dated and annoying.
Surprisingly, The Garfield Movie has done extremely well, almost making back its budget and has not even been released in the US yet. It has been a big international box office smash.
Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4 is on the way and producers say it will be a significant event. Since the MCU is having an overhaul, does this mean the end of the road for this Spider-Man? Damn, and Holland looks so good in tights.
Al Pacino is going back to his roots! He will play real-life mafioso Saro in the new movie Captivated. Say hello to his little friend!
Cillian Murphy has revealed that he is coming back for 28 Years Later, even though he was only attached as an executive producer before. He did not return for the sequel to 28 Days Later, titled 28 Weeks Later, but he will make a surprising return and may have a growing part of the franchise's intended trilogy sequel.
We are going back to the 90s! There will be a legacy sequel for I Know What You Did Last Summer, bringing back the original producer. The film starred 90s Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillipe, and Freddie Prinze Jr. Jennifer Love Hewitt said she’d be interested in returning. This will be released in 2025 and could go head to head with the next Scream film with Neve Campbell returning. Attack of the 90s slasher films!
It seems going back to the 90s is what Hollywood is all about. Allegedly, there is a Parent Trap 2 in the works and could include the return of original star Lindsay Lohan. Lohan is already returning for a Freaky Friday sequel. I guess everything old is new again!
Is Austin Butler going to be bringing the heat? Rumors have it, and he has not denied it, that he will be playing Val Kilmer’s character in Heat 2. Rumors also have it that Adam Driver will be playing Robert DeNiro’s character. The original Heat came out in 1995. Do we even remember what the story is about?
Insidious 6 is coming in 2025! I had no clue there were so many sequels! Nothing is known about the sequel and it is unclear if any original cast members will return. Please let’s see the return of Patrick Wilson’s butt, I mean Patrick Wilson.
Video games are having their moment on the big screen. Taking advantage, the Silent Hill world is coming back to the movies with a live-action Return to Silent Hill. Variety shared the first image of a well-known character from the game.
Venom 3 is happening and it is confirmed it will be the last film in the Tom Hardy-led iteration of the character. Duh, the title is Venom: The Last Dance and it probably isn’t a Donna Summer reference. We have such a crush on Tom Hardy but these films have been terrible.
There’s more Star Wars heading to the big screen. Rumored to be titled Jedi Prime, it is an origin story set 25,000 years before the original trilogy. Hmmm…are we on Star Wars overload? There are the TV shows, the continuation of the Rey story from the Skywalker timeline, and we are getting The Mandalorian & Grogu.
