Movie News: Tons of new Lord of the Rings, Aliens Meets Star Wars, Jurassic World 4...

Ok, Tolkien nerds! There’s more Lord of the Rings stuff coming our way. Warner Bros. released the first images of the upcoming anime movie The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, taking place 200 years before Frodo’s time. It has a lot of the aesthetic from Peter Jackson’s films and we will see some of the same locales. In addition, there’s a Hunt for Gollum film on its way for 2026 and Peter Jackson will produce with Gollum actor Andy Serkis to star and direct. Are we in the mood for so much LOTR?

Is Asher Angel DCU’s new Nightwing/Dick Grayson? We haven’t seen Robin on the big screen since 1997 with Chris O’Donnell in Batman and Robin. James Gunn will lead The Brave and the Bold, the first Batman movie in the DCU, and will feature the whole Bat family. Asher Angel posted a sly Nightwing GIF on his social media and everyone is guessing that he will fill the superhero’s shoes. Good fit?

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes led the box office this weekend with The Fall Guy and Challengers following. The Fall Guy picked up a bit from its opening weekend and is expected to barely break even. No one knows why the film with Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt didn’t click.

Aliens meets Star Wars? Sigourney Weaver is in talks to join The Mandalorian and Grogu movie. Well, we already know she can kick ass in space so, why not?

In an odd pairing, Jeff Bridges will join Bryan Cranston in an adaptation of Beowulf that will be produced by the Jim Henson Company. Dave Bautista will play Beowulf. Remember the weird 2007 version?

28 Years Later has gotten a 2025 release date even though the film hasn’t even started production. The horror franchise put Cillian Murphy on the map almost 22 years ago. He will not be returning as an actor but will be an executive producer. The cast includes Julie Comer, hottie Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Ralph Fiennes.

Gay, rejoice! Red, White & Royal Blue is getting a sequel. The rom-com had a cute storyline (if unbelievable) and some steamy scenes. The original cast with studs Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitzine will return, let’s hope Taylor shows some more booty.

Manuel Garcia-Rulfo is the latest actor to join Jurassic World 4, joining leads Scarlett Johansson and hot stuff Jonathan Bailey. The film is said to be a complete reboot. What does that mean? No dinosaurs will get out and try to eat people? Will they play chess? How could it possibly be different? Let’s hope a dinosaur chases Bailey and tears off his pants.

Early views of Mad Max’s Furiosa say that it is better than the reboot movie. Creator George Miller says he wants to focus more on Furiosa and is already planning another prequel film. He also stated that seeing original actor Mel Gibson return is not on the books.

Brad Pitt’s next film, Formula One, is said to be the most expensive movie ever made with a price tag of $300 million. As indicated by the title, it will be a racing film. Even with the hefty price tag, the film has no release date or even a distributor. Vroom vroom!

Disney+, Hulu, and Max are joining forces to provide a bundle subscription for viewers. So, yeah, cable. LOL.

There’s another biopic on the way. I Play Rocky will tell the true story of Sylvester Stallone’s early days as an actor and the making of Rocky.

More Speed? Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock have gone official saying they’d love to return to the franchise for Speed 3. Reeves did also say that there has to be a good script in place, that’s why he didn’t appear in Speed 2 (which was a terrible movie).
