Movie News: More Clue, Rosemary’s Baby, & Princess Diaries!

I’m your Gay News Guy – this is the news, casual, sassy, unfiltered, and a little tipsy. Ok here’s today’s MOVIE NEWS MONDAY as I see it!

Trailer drop! Disney released the trailer for Mufasa: The Lion King, the prequel to the CGI 2019 version. This story will center around the relationship between Scar and Mufasa and tell the tale of how Mufasa came to be king. The film will feature music by Lin-Manuel Miranda and will also see the return of some of the franchise’s favorite characters that include Zazu, Rafiki, Timon, and Pumbaa. In the credits of the trailer, we also see that Blue Ivy (Beyonce’s daughter) will make her film debut by voicing one of the characters. Take a look:

Speaking of Disney live-action stuff, did you know Guy Ritchie will be directing Hercules for Disney? They are just waiting for a script to be done so they can move forward. These Disney live-actioners haven’t really wowed at the box office…what is their obsession with getting things done? Bring us new stuff!

Is one of our favorite, hunky movie stars starting to tarnish? Our boy Henry Cavill isn’t having such a great time at the box office. His spy action film Argyle wasn’t a hit and his new film, Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, had a major decline from its opening weekend. Herny, do you need a hug? We’re here with open arms (and legs).

Rosemary’s Baby is getting a prequel! Coming to Paramount+ and starring Ozark’s Julia Garner, Apartment 7A will tell the story of a young, female dancer who befriends an older couple in the apartment complex. Sound familiar? No exact casting has been revealed but Dianne Wiest is in it, could she be taking over the role created by Ruth Gordon in the original? We hope so!

Talking about horror films, the trailer dropped for The Exorcism, a new thriller helmed by Russell Crowe. This has nothing to do with The Exorcist and follows the hot trend in faith-based horror films – The Omen prequel, Immaculate. This also has nothing to do with Crowe’s other film, The Pope’s Exorcist. Wow, there’s a lot of demons running around. That explains my ex.

Apparently, we love homoerotic threesomes! Zendaya’s new erotic film, The Challengers, topped the box office and is one of the highest opening weekends for the actress (Dune aside). It’s actually titled as a tennis drama, but we know what we are going to see. Yassss, gurl!

‘90s cult favorite Arachnophobia is getting a reboot! Afraid of spiders? Too bad. It’s coming! The first film was a perfect blend of comedy and cheap horror, we hope the reboot doesn’t try to be too fancy. Get it simple, keep it silly, keep it spidery.

Princess Diaries 3. Is the movie happening or what? After being considered dead in the water, Anne Hathway shared that progress is being made for a third installment of the Princess Diaries franchise and could center around her daughter’s character getting ready for the throne. No one is confirmed, and the cast had previously expressed doubts that it would get made, but it seems like that’s changed! Are you ready to go back to Genovia?

Deadpool & Wolverine will have a post-credit scene, and those who have seen it say it will blow your mind. If it isn’t Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman making out, I don’t want any part of it.

Tom Hiddleston and Mark Hamill will appear in the upcoming Stephen King adaptation, The Life of Chuck. We know that Stephen King adaptations can be hit or miss. Let’s hope this one is good. The film’s director, Mike Flanagan, was also responsible for The Shining sequel, Doctor Sleep, and that was pretty good. Fingers crossed!

Did you know that Ryan Reynolds was working on a Clue remake? Well, rights have been sold to another studio so that project is now scraped. Damn! Sony now owns the rights and may be developing a film and TV series based on the board game. While no one can hold a candle to Tim Curry, it would have been fun to see Reynolds sashaying his way through the mansion.
