Movie News: More Blair Witch, Bridget Jones, Star Trek, & R-rated Turtles!

I’m your Gay News Guy – this is the news, casual, sassy, unfiltered, and a little tipsy. Ok here’s today’s MOVIE NEW MONDAY as I see it!

More Jackass on the way? Jackass mastermind Johnny Knoxville (when did he become a hot daddy, by the way?) is saying that while he’s in no rush and doesn’t feel the impulse, he is still putting down some ideas and may be handing the torch over to the younger cast members featured in Jackass Forever. The last film was kind of sold as a final installment by the studio, but not by Knoxville.

I’ve said it before and now I have to say it again. They are giving out biopics like Oprah gave out freebies. In the last LONG string of biopics, SNL star, the late Chris Farley, is getting a biopic. The movie will be directed by actor Josh Gad and will star Emmy award winner Paul Walter Hauser.

Lionsgate announced a reboot of The Blair Witch Project and there’s already drama. The studio used original actor Joshua Leonard’s image for the announcement. Leonard took to Instagram and relayed his displeasure at being used without his knowledge and said there are still issues with earnings and compensation from the success of the original. The movie was super low-budget but ended up being a huge hit.

While most of the original cast is returning to Beetlejuice, OG Geena Davis confirmed that she and Alec Baldwin will not be in the sequel. There really is no explanation as to why not, maybe they finally got to go to heaven? It just seems an odd omission with no real explanation.

The Harry Potter family is in trouble! Although a TV series reboot is in the making, the original team isn’t doing so well. JK Rowling continues on the attack on the trans community and recently bashed Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson for their support of that community and says she will never forgive them. Um, I think they are fine.

The first trailer for Gladiator 2 dropped, and we get to see Pedro Pascal in his sweaty, fighting glory. Though the film is loosely connected to the original, we will have to see if audiences still care after all these years.

Star Trek nerds rejoice! Paramount announced that there will be a Star Trek origin movie coming to the big screen! This will be produced by JJ Abrams and occur long before the Chris Pine-led crew. Surprisingly, this is due to come out in 2025 which is right around the corner. This allows follows in the news that the reboot crew Star Trek 4 is also in the works.

Bridget Jones is getting a part 4! Renée Zellweger, Hugh Grant, and Emma Thompson are all coming back. How will they explain her new face?

Paramount also announced that there will be a G.I. Joe and Transformers cross-over movie. Huh? No details have been given about the film other than it will come out in 2025 or 2026.

Have you read The Running Man by Stephen Kind (written under the name Richard Bachman)? The original 1987 film adaption starred Arnold Schwarzenegger. The story centers around a nightmarish future where contestants on a TV show must keep running in order to escape death. A new adaption is heading to the big screen starring hottie Glen Powell. Let’s hope they put him in short nylon shorts…run, Glen, run!

With the continued success of Scream, it was only time that the Scary Movie (the cheesy parody films) franchise would also be getting a reboot. The first one was somewhat funny, the rest were TERRIBLE.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are coming baaaack! It will be a live-action version AND will be rated R! The film will be based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin comic miniseries.

The trailer dropped for our next straight-guy fantasy mashup for Guy Ritchie’s In the Grey starring Henry Cavill and Jake Gyllenhaal. Lord help us, get out the Kleenex!

Margot Robbie is developing a Monopoly movie with Lionsgate and Hasbro. If it is really based on the board game, it will last four hours long, make everyone upset, and put us all to sleep.

Diego Luna joins J Lo in the big screen adaptation of the musical Kiss of the Spider Woman…can he sing? Gurl! I don’t know if I’m excited or horrified. Musical theatre gays, what say you?
