More Star Wars, Tron, Moana, Toy Story, Dune, & Matrix!
I’m your Gay News Guy – this is the news, casual, sassy, unfiltered, and a little tipsy. Ok here’s today’s MOVIE NEW MONDAY as I see it!
The First Omen got great reviews, but not such a great box office opening weekend. Godzilla x Kong maintained the top billing in sales for its 2nd weekend. Dev Patel’s action film Monkey Man had a very healthy debut at #2.
Matrix 5 is full steam ahead, although the Wachowski sisters will not be directing, Lana Wachowski will serve as an executive producer. Although it is assumed Keanu and Carrie-Ann Moss will return, nothing has been confirmed. Do we need any more? That last iteration was…a mess.
Girls kick ass, and Margot Robbie and Olivia Wilder are joining forces to bring comic Avengelyne to the screen. Avengelyne was created by Rob Liefeld, who also created Deadpool.
Release dates! Tron 3 is slated to hit theaters on October 10, 2025, after years in process and with Jared Leto returning as the lead. The Mandalorian & Grogu will arrive on May 22, 2026, seven years after any Star Wars film on the big screen. Will the success of this film solidify a new generation of Star Wars films? The live-action version of Moana has been postponed to July 10, 2026 – a year after its original drop date – because there’s an animated Moana 2 coming out first. That’s a lot of Moana in a short time. We know that Disney’s live-action remakes are…iffy. Toy Story 5 will be hitting theaters on June 19, 2026, seeing the return of our favorite toys. It is rumored that still won’t be the last!
Well, that didn’t take long. With the success of Dune 2 at the box office, Dune 3 is being fast-tracked into development.
There’s a Christian Bale Frankenstein on the horizon. The Bride, from writer/director Maggie Gyllenhaal, features Christian Bale, Annette Bening, Jessie Buckley, Penélope Cruz, Julianne Hough, and Peter Sarsgaard in a retelling of the monster story.
Julia Garner (Ozarks) has been cast as Shalla-Bal in The Fantastic Four movie, described as a type of Silver Surfer character. Hmmm…
Luc Besson (Fifth Element) is reimagining the Dracula story with Dracula – A Love Tale, starring Caleb Landry Jones as Dracula and two-time Oscar winner Christoph Waltz playing a priest.
