Hell Together with David Archuleta
With all the hubbub regarding Beyoncé's Coach Carter album, one of our favorite singers, Mormon boy turned queer hottie David Archuleta released a new single, "Hell Together." A pretty provocative title from someone who was so steeped in his religion, and the song has already stirred up plenty of comments.

Hot off the heels of winning the GLAAD Media Award for “Outstanding Breakthrough Music Artist," this song may be the most riveting from his 15-year music career. Archuleta states in a press release:
"Hell Together" is inspired by what my mom said to me after I left my Mormon faith and religion altogether. It was a scary place to leave something that was all I knew and that gave me my purpose to live, but it was something I knew I needed to do as I felt a new sense and purpose for life. A few days after I publicly announced leaving the Mormon church my mom texted me saying she had decided to leave too. I was shocked as she was so devout. I asked what made her feel she needed to leave because she didn’t need to follow my example. She said 'If you go to Hell, we’re all going to Hell with you. We’re a family and we’ll always be there for each other, in good or in bad!' I was really moved by that."

The song has a very gospel feel, starting off like a church anthem and expanding into a joyful and empowering hymn, complete with a choir. David talks about the assumption that people who leave the church feel dark and empty, the complete opposite of his own journey. Leaving the church has opened Archuleta's eyes and he is fine with going to hell if this means he is happy and knows who he is. As anticipated, some of his fans are not happy with his newfound life.

Over the course of the last few years, we have seen David's journey as he comes into his sexuality, free from the pressures of his earlier faith. He has openly talked about learning about gay culture and sex and coming to terms with all aspects of his life, even joking on TikTok about not being a full-time bottom. These topics and more will be shared in Archuleta's upcoming memoir.
