Scream, Stephen King, Star Trek, & Much More!

I’m your Gay News Guy – this is the news, casual, sassy, unfiltered, and a little tipsy. Ok here’s today’s MOVIE NEW MONDAY as I see it!

Godzilla x Kong knocked it out of the box office this weekend, earning the top of its projected opening, making it the highest-earning opening weekend for any film from the Monsterverse in ten years! There have been sooooo many Godzilla projects. Seriously, we need more? What could they possibly do differently with him? Big creature gets mad, big creature wreaks havoc, people get crushed, and no one addresses where Godzilla goes to the bathroom. Yeah, ok…

Many of you gays haven't seen the Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick film A Simple Favor, and it shows. It is DELICIOUS. Go back and watch it. It is catty, it is twisted, there are fabulous outfits, there are big martinis, there is backstabbing, there are Karen Walker-worthy one-liners…WATCH IT. Even though it was a bit of a sleeper hit, the sequel is approaching. The two leads are returning (even though they had a big rumored falling out and allegedly stopped doing press together), and now they’ve added Allison Janney to the cast. YES, please! Bring on the martinis!

In other sequel news, Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are returning for Freaky Friday 2, a direct sequel to the popular film that came out 21 years ago. Jamie Lee is an Oscar winner, what are you doing???? LOL.

We know that Neve Campbell is coming back for Scream 7. Now Courtney Cox is allegedly in final talks to make her return as Gale Weathers (hopefully without bangs). It only makes sense for her to return as well. This movie needs all the nostalgia help it can get with all the drama with the new cast.

Who knew that Child’s Play’s Chucky would live on and on and on? Not only a series of movies and a reboot, it has also spawned a popular show. Chucky creator Don Mancini says that he will probably just be focusing on Chucky more and is working on a new big-screen movie.

Stephen King’s upcoming horror film, The Monkey (based on the short story from his Skeleton Crew collection), is rounding out its cast. Elijah Wood has been cast as well as the hunky, dreamy, Theo James who will play twins – cue our gay twin fantasies!

Kristen Stewart was heard on a podcast scoffing about the idea of joining the Marvel Universe on screen, calling it an “f-ing nightmare.” These are different sentiments than when she expressed interest back in 2015, but anyhow. She said she would only join the Universe if Greta Gerwig was directing. No thanks, girl, we’re good.

Ok, Star Trek 4 is happening. This is the Chris Pine-led version of Trek. He had originally pulled out because of money, and there have been a number of stops and starts with this. It has been 8 years since there’s been a Trek big screen movie, the longest delay between Trek films ever. This is being considered as the final chapter for this crew.

The Bear lead and Calvin Klein undie-wearing actor Jeremy Allen White is in negotiation to play Bruce Springsteen in a biopic. Everyone is getting a biopic! It’s like Oprah is just throwing them out – you get a biopic and you get a biopic and YOU get a biopic! The first images of Timothée Chalamet for Bob Dylan’s biopic just came out. Michael Jackson’s biopic is on the horizon, along with an Amy Winehouse one.

The trailer dropped for Bad Boys 4, starring original leads Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. Let’s hope it’s a winner, Smith needs something good!

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer says Pirates of the Caribbean 6 will be a reboot, not a sequel. It is unclear if Johnny Depp will make an appearance as Captain Sparrow, especially with his strained relationship with Disney after all of his court shenanigans.

In TV news, Jim Parsons revisited his Sheldon role to appear in the series finale of Young Sheldon. We will appear with co-star Mayim Bialik. Big Bang Theory ended in 2019.

Bette Midler tweeted that she would love to be an addition to the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Andy Cohen responded affirmatively. Is that a joke? Could that happen? Yes, please!
