Jurassic Park, NeverEnding Story, Happy Gilmore, Movie Stars Fighting!
I’m your Gay News Guy – this is the news, casual, sassy, unfiltered, and a little tipsy. Ok here’s today’s MOVIE NEW MONDAY as I see it!
Can you believe that the Jurassic Park franchise is 30 years old? Wellll…it’s getting a reboot! No, not the Chris Pratt reboot…no, not the original cast meets new cast reboot…it’s getting a whole makeover with none of the original stars returning (maybe a cameo?), AND the franchise has picked its new lead. Two-time Oscar nominee Scarlett Johansson is in final talks to lead the movies forward. The new film is being fast-tracked with an intended July 2025 release.
Film stars Sacha Baron Cohen and Rebel Wilson are publicly spatting. Rebel made accusations that Cohen acted like an a-hole during the filming of The Brothers Grimsby, and pressured her to do things she did not want to do, including appearing nude. Sacha made a statement denying the allegations. Wilson’s allegations come prior to the release of her memoir, Rebel Rising.
Despite tepid reviews and bad fan reviews, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire had a moderate, yet strong weekend opening at $45 million, taking the movie franchise past $1 billion in sales. Did you see it? Dan Aykroyd has already talked about a storyline for another film.
Looks like a Happy Gilmore sequel is in the works. Actor Christopher McDonald, who appeared in the first, says that a script has already been finished and the sequel is on its way. Oh goodie, another Sandler film.
The Lady Gaga/ Joaquin Phoenix-led Joker: Folie À Deux will be a jukebox musical and feature 15 music covers in the movie. Hmmm…really on the fence about this one. Let’s see how it develops.
The Syndey Sweeney-led horror movie Immaculate had a very strong box office opening, making it film studio NEON’s biggest box office opening weekend to date. I bet Sweeney is glad this is taking the bad rap off her other film, Madame Web.
TV-movie Star Trek: Section 31, starring Michelle Yeoh, has wrapped! Members of Star Trek: Brave New Worlds were seen partying away with the cast of Section 31 at the wrap party.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice heated up social media with the release of a trailer with footage from the film with a fun remake of Day-O leading the soundtrack. Actor Jeffrey Jones, who played the father in the original, will not be returning. First, it shows his funeral in the footage, secondly, he was arrested and convicted of possessing questionable material concerning minors.
Jack Black is back in the spotlight with successes like Kung Fu Panda 4 and Super Marios Bros (with more on the way). Now, he says he would consider doing a School of Rock movie sequel, as long as writer Mike White comes back. Mike is having his own success and is currently working on White Lotus 3.
A Peaky Blinders movie is in the works and will pick up some of the unfinished storylines from the 6th season of the TV show. Also, Cillian Murphy is confirmed as being involved.
There’s a Sims movie in the works, with Margot Robbie producing. Oh lordy, is everything getting a movie version? Panda Express the Movie? Solitaire the Movie?
There’s a Downtown Abbey 3 coming, and it will be the last film for the franchise.
40 years later, The NeverEnding Story is getting a reboot! A series of live-action movies will be released as a series to flesh out the original book and expand on the universe. Yes, please, let’s wipe out the memories of the horrible sequels.
