Lil Nas X and Skaiwater Drop Some "light"
In 2018, when Lil Nas X was just starting out, he featured English rapper Skaiwater on a song called "No Love." That same year, Lil Nas became a household name with his hit, "Old Town Road."
Now, six years later, the tables have turned and Lil Nas's career comes full circle as he is featured on Skaiwater's just-released song, "light." The song also features a music video that was made for the gaymer world. Skaiwater, who goes by all pronouns, specifically "they," opened for Lil Nas for his 2022 Montero tour. The two apparently are close friends.
The video starts out with a girl putting on the game "Light," choosing her character, and diving into the colorful world of the song. The video features a diverse bevy of models clad in fashion that looks like the Matrix meets Hot Topic meets a furry convention. Skaiwater is at the center of the video, shirtless, with a pair of furry ears on their head. A two-headed teddy bear necklace features largely in the video as well.
The song is fun, and deals with breakup and cheating. Who wronged Lil Nas X? He references in the song that someone ended up “cheating on [his] ass with a cornball” and repeats “fuck my ex." Yikes.
In January, Lil Nas X once again caused a religious stir with the release of his single "J Christ." Taking to social media, he features some religious iconography and said he was returning to his religious roots. Some took offense to the theme and imagery saying that the queer musician was calling himself the Messiah, heresy! Earlier in the year, a series of posters went up around the nation, telling people to "save Lil Nas X" and bring him back to Jesus in reference to his seemingly celebration of Satan and hell in his music video for Montero. Apparently, he took the "come back to Jesus" call a little too literally.
Earlier this month, Lil Nas X took to Twitter to announce that his second album would be titled NASARATI 2. No album information or track listing has been shared.
