Beyoncé Drops Surprise New Music…It’s Country!

New Music To Listen to This Week Graphic.

Beyoncé Goes Country

Even though we didn't have a super gay Super Bowl halftime this year (unless you count Usher's abs as our treat), we did get a surprise music drop from our beloved Queen Bee. We were all wondering what the hell she was wearing at this year's Grammys, cowboy hat and all...now we know.

During this Sunday's Super Bowl, Beyoncé dropped a fun, tongue-in-cheek commercial with Verizon Wireless in which she wonders how she can continue breaking the internet. The commercial ends with her announcing new music with a sample taste. BOOM!

She announced that "act ii" of her 2022 album is coming March 29th, and it will be country. Along with her announcement, she dropped two tracks that gave us a sneak peek at her new sound, twangy guitars and all. "Texas Hold 'Em" and "16 Carriages" are available for streaming now.

"Texas Hold 'Em":

"This ain't Texas / Ain't no hold 'em / So our lays our cards down, down, down, down."

Not sure what country music fans will think of her offering...but it also may be true that Beyoncé can do no wrong. She looks fierce, modern sexy meets country. Her take on leather gear will no doubt inspire many a drag show outfit. She sounds fantastic, of course, and does capture the energy and story of a true country song. Yee haw!

"16 Carriages"

"Fifteen innocents was gone astray / Had to leave my home at an early age/ I saw mama prayin', I saw daddy grind / All my tender problems, had to leave behind."

She gives us country music balladeer vibes in this track, with some Texas showgirl glitter and glam. Wonder how many Grammys she'll snag next time.

If tearing up the internet during the Super Bowl wasn't enough, she made a splash when a golf cart brought her to the actual game after it had already started. The crowds went crazy. Geesh, Beyoncé, you could have gotten up and sang a little ditty with Usher!

Her joining the world of country music reminds us of other pop artists who have gone to the cowboy side. The list includes Michelle Branch, Jewel, Kid Rock (barf), Nelly, Darius Rucker, and Steven Tyler. Some did it well, some...well, didn't.

Alright, Bey fans...what say you? Excited? Ready to get on a horse?
