I’m your Gay News Guy – this is the news, casual, sassy, unfiltered, and a little tipsy. Ok here’s today’s MOVIE NEW MONDAY as I see it!
A brand new trailer just dropped for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the sequel to the reboot of the original films. What we get is a whole lot of info as the extended trailer really promotes the nostalgia and relationships from the first film, while meshing in the new generation of Ghostbusters. We see many faces from the first film reappear, including more Stay Puft Marshmallows, the jerk who antagonized the team in the original, and Slimer! We get to see more of an extended storyline, and it looks pretty good. Two months to wait, but lezzzzz go!
The details have been under warp for Deadpool 3 but finally, a synopsis has been revealed. Apparently Deadpool, along with the return of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, will "change the history of the MCU." That’s it, that’s all we got. What does this mean? The film is supposedly a goodbye to Ryan Reynold’s Deadpool, and the original X-Men generation. Will this lead to a massive reboot? Or does it create more material for the MCU Universe? Who knows, that synopsis is pretty cryptic. There is also no trailer as of yet. No doubt this will be a huge money maker.
Is Rob Pattinson’s The Batman sequel cancelled? There’s been no news as to development, but James Gunn, DC’s new mastermind, replied simply, “NO,” when asked about the film’s cancellation after a flurry of rumors. It was a hit at the box office (although I fell asleep twice trying to finish it), so no doubt they are eager to carry on some kind of success for a DC film.
Despicable Me 4 dropped its trailer this week. This is the franchise that keeps going and going and going. In this iteration, Gru has a son and together they will fight a villain. Of course, the Minions will be around in full force. I never got the allure of this franchise, but hey, it’s a success at the box office!
Wicked has officially wrapped up principal filming for its two-part screen adaptation of the musical. We have learned that some new characters have been added, probably to flesh out a two-picture storytelling, including the addition of Glinda’s father. The film took about 13 months to film due to COVID and the actor’s strike. Part One arrives in November 2025, with Part Two following in November of 2026. Yaaasss, Witch!

Were you a fan of the TV show Community? Well, the film version seems to be finally underway, confirming that stars Joel McHale, Yvette Nicole Brown, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash, and Ken Jeong are all returning. The only major actors not confirmed yet are Donald Glove (due to scheduling issues) and Chevy Chase (he had a less-than-happy exit from the show).
In gay fantasy news, John Cena and Zac Efron will appear in Amazon’s Ricky Stanicky, a comedy where John plays a fictional friend to Efron to blame some hijinks on. This marks Zac’s return to comedy after some major drama work, something he will carry through to his next film, A Family Affair, another comedy where he falls in love with Nicole Kidman. Though we love to see Zac stretch his acting muscles, we love him in those raunchy comedies where he ends up in underwear (or less).
Knives Out 3 is coming. Daniel Craig is returning as the hottie gay detective Benoit Blanc. These first two films put together an amazing cast of A-listers. I think I am literally the only one who didn’t care for the sequel. Just me? Oy.
Guillermo del Toro is bringing Frankenstein to the big screen with one of Hollywood’s hottest actors in the cast. Jacob Elordi (from Saltburn) will star alongside other heavy hitters Mia Goth, Oscar Isaac, Charles Dance, and Christoph Waltz. Filming has not yet started, but we can imagine this is going to be a wild ride.

Henry Cavill continues to make us swoon in the trailers for the action comedy Argylle. Despite his bad haircut, his tight-fitting suit and spy-inspired action scenes keep us staring. Apparently, there is a prequel series already in the works based on his character even though the movie hasn’t even come out yet!
