Move over Drag Race, there’s the other drag competition show making a splash! The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula, called “one of the foremost queer competitions on television” by Entertainment Weekly, just got renewed for a sixth season on Shudder, AMC Networks’ premium streaming service for geeks who love horror, thrillers, and the supernatural.
Dragula’s fifth season, streaming its final four episodes through January, currently ranks among Shudder’s most-watched titles and top acquisition drivers of the year. This ongoing season had the largest budget yet, and this little cult show that could, presented a brand new set, new crew members, and the most diverse cast ever, with the Boulet Brothers taking over as the series’ directors. Add to that, the season boasts some of their biggest guest judges yet with Mike Flanagan (director of Netflix’s Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, Doctor Sleep), Kevin Smith, and Scream star and '90s hottie Matthew Lillard.
It's been a year for the Boulet Brothers! In addition to Dragula, they released Dragula: Titans spinoff series, toured around the world on a live tour, released the darkly fabulous Halfway to Halloween TV special, were named among Out Magazine’s 100 Influential list, and won Best Makeup at this year’s Makeup and Hair Stylists Awards. They were featured in Variety, Fangoria, Bloody Disgusting, and appeared on Good Morning America.
These queens have really made a name in the biz. Despite their gothic lewks, darker humor, and eyebrow-raising antics, they have crossed the bridge to mainstream, not only becoming a presence in the horror world, but also the Queer and mainstream genres with coverage in Entertainment Weekly, The Onion, AV Club, The Advocate, Alternative Press, and more. They've done it all on their own, having their hands in all aspects of their brand: writing, directing, artistic vision, illustration, music production, costume design, logistical coordination, and business affairs. What can't they do? Better watch out, RuPaul!
What do these queens have to say for themselves?
"We're thrilled to be teaming up with Shudder for a brand new season of The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula. With season 5, we took the show in a new direction and the response from the fans was overwhelmingly positive. Now, with the 6th season, we plan on leaning into this bold, new direction even further and truly pushing the creative limits of the show to new heights!"
Casting for the Boulet Brothers' Dragula season 6 is now open. Go to Bouletbrothersdragula.com to find out more.
