I recently enjoyed a Netflix+chill night (or more accurately Apple+ and ass-eating) and got down with Down Low, the latest from director Rightor Doyle. Picture this: Freshly out ex-family man Gary (Zachary Quinto) orders an in-house rub-n-tug by rent masseur Cameron (Lukas Gage). Connections spark, anon cock pigs fly out of windows, and oh-so-many antics ensue. If inappropriate is your favorite brand of humor, then buckle up, buttercup, because this film is right up your alley.
Zachary Quinto dazzles in 50 shades of awkward as Gary, the shy daddy (like, actual daddy in this case) who is blindingly unaware of his f*ckability. His nuanced performance captures the essence of a man navigating uncharted territories in his personal life. Lukas Gage gladly balances the dynamic with out-and-proud (and slightly out of control) Cameron, who is elated to find out that his latest client is a virgin to dick. His excitement is the catalyst for a night full of ridiculous antics with a sprinkling of crack (not a metaphor). And to top it off we get to Judith Light pumped up on Ambien and running amok all over a crime scene. Are we sold yet?
Down Low dives into queer-adjacent themes that resonate with audiences on many levels. One theme at the core of this film is that of sexual exploration and self-discovery, as our protagonists fearlessly navigate the complexities of personal desires and societal expectations. Through Gary's journey of sexual awakening, the narrative boldly highlights the challenges of embracing one's sexuality later in life and the inevitable vulnerabilities that accompany such a transformative personal transformation.
The film also throws into the mix of themes of self-acceptance and the importance of embracing one's (homo)sexuality. Gary's journey towards loving his queer self serves as a rainbow-painted reminder of the importance of embracing one's authentic self, regardless of how much dick you took over the weekend. The narrative encourages viewers to celebrate individuality and to embrace the beauty of self-discovery, fostering a message of pride, empowerment, and self-compassion.
Throughout the film, Down Low teases its audiences with tonsil-tapping sexual tension and cock-swelling chemistry between the main characters. Zachary Quinto's portrayal of the coyly f*ckable nerd Gary exudes a subtle sensuality that will have you sliding off your seat from beginning to end. Lukas Gage's charismatically cocky depiction of the unabashed Cameron adds an element of unapologetic flirtation backed by full-on DTF vibes, creating a sexy dynamic between the two men that drips with anticipation. As the plot unfolds, the film effortlessly weaves in moments of intimacy and desire between the two characters.
Start the popcorn and pull out the poppers, folks. Down Low is sure to serve up laughs while fueling your appetites for hot himbos and DL daddies. And if you’re curious to know if Down Low serves up a sex scene or two just ask yourself, “Has Lukas Gage ever taken on a project where he didn’t get his ass eaten or partook in golden showers?” Oops, spoiler…
