I’m your Gay News Guy – this is the news, casual, sassy, unfiltered, and a little tipsy. Ok here’s today’s MOVIE news as I see it!
Welp…just like we knew, Taylor Swift’s The Era Tour movie broke all box office records, just after five days. Audiences came in droves to see the movie version of her concert, with most audiencegoers seeing it more than once. Even if they paid millions of dollars to see the same concert. I…I just don’t get it. Can someone explain Swifties to me? Am I missing something? Now, if it were Liza Minnelli, that would be something. Did I just age myself?
Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon, though having a solid box office opening weekend, could not overcome the Swiftie craze, coming in at #2 with $23 million in its domestic opening weekend. There’s already a lot of Oscar buzz surrounding the film, and the Oscars are far away so the length of play this movie will get will likely provide much-needed box-office sales to pay for the A-list all-star cast.
Some shade from the Killers of the Flower Moon set. Apparently, Robert De Niro would roll his eyes constantly when his co-star, Leo DiCaprio, would start improving. Shadyyyyyy!
Is Harry Potter’s Daniel Radcliffe the new Wolverine? He recently went through a major hottie body transformation and is RIPPED. The rumors started to swirl that he was going through training because he was cast as the new Wolverine. Daniel finally came out to address the rumors and said…nope. His body oddy look is not for a role. We know that Hugh Jackman will be seen in Deadpool 3 as Wolverine and now rumors are swirling that he may just stay cast as the character, even into the film reboots.
After 2 years of being silent, The Purge 6 is moving forward! I thought it was related to eating disorders. Come to find out, it is not. And six movies? Who wanted the second one? This, like Saw, is a franchise that will probably go on and on and on and on.
More horror film news, Sleepy Hollow is getting a reboot by Lindsey Anderson Beer, who made her feature directorial debut with the recent Pet Sematary: Bloodlines. This will not be close to the Tim Burton version, and she says she’s not even going to rewatch that version. This one will go back to the original story for inspiration. While I liked the look of Burton’s Sleepy Hollow...it was a bit slow and, shall I say it…hollow.
Ok, fashionistas…production has confirmed that Beetlejuice 2 will feature the return of the iconic black and white suit that is so recognizable as Beetlejuice. Michael Keaton, reprising his role, wanted his return to feature the burgundy suit he wore in the wedding finale. Um, hello? Every Halloween costume company sells the black and white suit, not the burgundy. Derp.
Disney just can’t help themselves. The live-action version of Frozen is rumored to be in the works. Oy. Who would you cast?
Cute and cuddly wins? Surprisingly, Five Nights at Freddy's (the scary take-off of Chuck E Cheese) beats out both The Exorcist: Believer and Saw X in projected box office sales. Maybe it's because so many of us had the same nightmares whenever the animatronics would come out to play? It’s also rated PG-13, not a dramatic rating for a horror film.
Mamma Mia 3 is a go but horrible movie fans will have to wait. Did I just throw shade? LOL. The film's preproduction is stalled, even though a storyline exists because ABBA is busy with their reunion album. We will just have to wait longer for another bad movie!
Fun fact, did you know that Frasier’s Kelsey Grammer was in talks to play Han Solo in Star Wars? LOL.
Another fun fact, did you know that Britney Spears was this close to starring in The Notebook with Ryan Gosling? We know, of course, that the role ultimately went to Rachel McAdams. LOL.
