Are you the type of gay that runs to Starbucks the first day Pumpkin Spice Lattes go on sale? Well, hunties, this week is for you. The queen, the diva, the legend, Cher has released her Christmas album early, and we are gagged.
Simply titled Christmas, it is her twenty-seventh studio album. It is her first album of original material in ten years, following Closer to the Truth, as well as her first Christmas album. When asked why she hasn’t made one over her 6-decade career, she simply said that she just didn’t want it. But she said that she finally figured out the way to mix her brand with what people want from a Christmas album. We all know that Christmas albums rake in the bucks…not that she needs it. It’s a mix of classics and some originals and includes appearances of some of her musical besties including Darlene Love, Stevie Wonder, Michael Bublé, Cyndi Lauper, and Tyga.
Often very humble about her own music, she has said that this is “one of the most amazing highlights” of her career. WERK, Queen!
She recorded this album in Los Angeles and London and was produced by her collaborator who did Believe. Coincidentally, she is also celebrating the 25th anniversary of the multi-platinum Grammy-winning anthem with the release of Believe 25th Anniversary (Deluxe Edition) on Warner Records. Are you gagged yet?
If you’re Christmasly inclined, turn on the AC full blast, get in a blanket, order your Pumpkin Spice Latte and turn on the album full blast.
Here’s the track list:
- DJ Play A Christmas Song
- What Christmas Means To Me (with Stevie Wonder)
- Run Run Rudolph
- Christmas (Baby, Please Come Home) [with Darlene Love]
- Angels In The Snow
- Home (with Michael Bublé)
- Drop Top Sleigh Ride (with Tyga)
- Please Come Home For Christmas
- I Like Christmas
- Christmas Ain’t Christmas Without You
- Santa Baby
- Put A Little Holiday In Your Heart (with Cyndi Lauper)
- This Will Be Our Year
Some of our faves are her duet with Stevie Wonder on “What Christmas Means to Me” and with the fabulous Darlene Love on “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home),” a song Love first recorded years ago with Cher on backgrounds when Cher was only 17. Get out the tissues for “Home” written and sung with the hottie Michael Bublé. Her “Put A Little Holiday In Your Heart” with Cyndi Lauper is also fun.
