I’m your Gay News Guy – this is the news, casual, sassy, unfiltered, and a little tipsy. Ok here’s today’s MOVIE news as I see it!
Eddie Murphy will sacrifice everything and anything for the perfect Christmas in the first trailer for Candy Cane Lane, his latest comedy to hit the screens. Gurl, when was the last time Eddie Murphy had a hit comedy? Crickets…
The MPA rating for The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes has come out. Not gonna lie…this has been hyped as a super dark, violent blood bath prequel to the other Hunger Games films. Although PG-13 goes in line with the other films, I was hoping this was gonna get a bit more adult. Have you seen the trailer? It looks fabuloussss and DARK! P.S. My secret crush Jason Schwartzman as Stanley Tucci's Caesar Flickerman’s ancestor….YES PLEASE! All I wanna see from The Hunger Games are more sweaty guys in action, explosions, and big costumes. We do know that this will be the longest movie in the franchise at a whopping 2 hours and 37 minutes. WOWWW…I’m gonna have to pee a million times during it.
One thing we will miss from this serving of Hunger Games is twunk Josh Hutcherson (when is he going to come out already???). Josh is back on the big screen in a tongue-in-cheek horror flick Five Night’s at Freddy’s. Basically fueling all of our nightmares from the Chuck E. Cheese dancing robots, it’s about what happens at a kid’s restaurant when the animatronics come to life.
Fan of the Saw franchise? Sorrryyyy. The last installment, Saw X, which was really Saw 1.5 (don’t ask), is supposed to the final story in the Jigsaw franchise. Director Kevin Greutert says anything is possible, but Jigsaw is gone gone gone. But we know Hollywood…he probably had a twin brother or something who will carry on the family business.
One franchise that clearly won’t end is Halloween. Halloween 14 is being talked about with the resurrection of Michael Myers. This resurrection is more unbelievable than Jesus’.
Are you a Swiftie? As if we couldn’t get any more Taylor Swift in our face. Her new film, The Eras Tour, a concert film of her most recent tour, hit theaters with a premiere at The Grove in Los Angeles on Wednesday. It’s broken all records for single-day advance ticket sales -- $26 million. This weekend, the film is expected to gross $115 million. Ridiculous. AND, not to mention, I literally live across the street from The Grove and we were barricaded in pretty much unable to come and go because of the traffic and road closures. Pfft!
Did you see the new Exorcist? As an avid original Exorcist fan (JUST the original, NOT the sequels), I was there the first day it was released, popcorn and flask in hand. How was it? It was…meh. It wasn’t terrible, it wasn’t great. It took a loooong time to get anywhere and when it finally did, it was kind of a mess. For fans of the original, there is some great homage (if cheesy) content, but that’s not enough to make this great. It just came across like any other second-rate horror film. The original was so great because it was so artfully done, made the audience think for themselves, and went in some pretty dark places. This was like a Lifetime version of a horror film. It got a little preachy too, which I didn’t need. Wait till it comes out on digital and watch it for free, no doubt it will end up there soon.
