A Casual Hookup Goes Horribly Wrong In New Trailer for ‘Down Low’ Starring Zachary Quinto and Lukas Gage

We seem to be entering a Golden Age of mainstream Queer content. From Bottoms, to Heartstopper, to Cassandro, we're seeing more LGBTQ+ content on major platforms and with a massive array of styles and genres. The new dark comedy Down Low seems like it's going to keep that trend moving in just the right direction.

Starring gay actors Zachary Quinto (Star Trek) and Lukas Gage (White Lotus), Down Low tells the story of Gary (Quinto), a repressed gay man who meets Cameron (Gage), a sexy masseur. When Cameron gives Gary the proverbial "happy ending" during a massage, Gary is forever changed and he comes to realize something major: ohhh yeah... he's a big ole homo. "You’re the first guy I’ve ever been intimate with," he says in the trailer. “I had a wife, she left." Gage's Cameron responds with a hilarious, "I really don’t know what to say, I mean words of affirmation is not my love language." He adds, "It’s more like (gagging noises)."

What ensues looks to be a gay buddy comedy for the 21st Century! From the trailer alone we know it will dive headfirst into sexual exploration, being messy, the Dark Web™, and dead bodies that require discreet disposal. When Cameron tells Gary he wants to help him explore his sexuality, he arranges for a Grindr hookup to come over faster than Gary can blink his brown eye. But as we see from the trailer, things go awry and we're left with bodies wrapped in tarp, and what can decidedly be described as a Grindr Fail. "I am really glad I met you, even if multiple are dead because of it," Quinto's Gary tells Cameron.

And like all good Queer films, the movie also boasts an amazing ensemble cast. Judith Light and Audra McDonald both co-star in the movie, which means my Queer-ass is DEFINITELY going to see it.

Directed by Rightor Doyle, Down Low was actually co-written by Gage (along with Phoebe Fisher), and it first made its world premiere this year at the legendary film festival South By Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas. The movie will be available to buy or rent on October 10th. Enjoy the trailer below!
