Reading is Fundamental Ep 8: Barbie – Feminist or Communist? Only Drag Can Judge

Move over, School House Rock. Take a seat, Miss Frizzle. Class is in session and I can smell the nail polish and poppers, which means our instructors are closing in. It's time for another dose of fun and sexy legal insight from our ass-loving attorneys at law, the lustfully lickable lawyer duo, none other than Dextra DeNovo and Blue Bailey! Yes, this leather daddy/drag queen duo are both licensed attorneys in the state of anxiety... I mean California. It is time for another episode of Reading is Fundamental, the podcast where we hear about news and entertainment law from familiar queer voices. With the current state of our country, we need every last bit of legal insight that our queer brothers, sisters, and gender-nonconforming kin have to offer. Of course, being the homos that we all are, Dextra and Blue dish on the (you f*ckin guessed it) Barbie Movie. "You need to put Barbieland in some theme park," Dextra exclaims as she gently yet assertively "bangs" her palms down on the table. Frankenstein together enough drag queens' dressing rooms and you got yourself a Barbieland with a capital "B." Unfortunately for our Blonde Bombshell, Barbie is banned in Vietnam. It's a bit crazy, but here's the tea. In the film, a crude drawing of a map is depicted with a 9-dash line on it. This line is reminiscent of one that China uses to claim ownership of parts of the world that, well, aren't actually theirs. Kinda like when that retired guy in the floral button-down with too many cars and not enough social awareness thinks that your ass belongs to him just because he gave it a squeeze at high tea. Those aren't the rules, China. Check your privilege and your nukes. We stand with you, Vietnam.
