Much like when TIME Magazine declares their "Person of the Year" to be a group of people ("The Protestor"; "The Ebola Fighters"; "The Guardians", etc.) this year, I'm declaring that the "Song of the Summer" is in fact "The Gay Bop." The only difference is "Song of the Summer" comes with a bit more prestige imho. One quick point of clarity: for the purposes of this piece, when we say Gay Bop™, we specifically mean Queer songs by Queer artists. There are, of course, songs like "Padam" by Queen of our hearts Kylie Minogue, but that's "a bop that the gays love" versus a true Gay Bop™.
And to that end, we've noticed a trend this Summer with seemingly Gay Bop™ after Gay Bop™ after Gay Bop™ being released. Some are sexy, some are funny, some are sweet, and some are all three combined into one glorious jam. They also notably come from a variety of types of artists ranging from pop to country music, and some of the artists are making their music debuts with their tunes. And above all else, they all share one big thing in common: they're fucking awesome songs.
First, we had Troye Sivan's "Rush" released in July. The song is pure sex and fun, and is a nod to both the rush we get from the sexual chase, as well as the brand of poppers Rush. The music video is filled with a deluge of gorgeous people, though as critics pointed out, they're all primarily one specific body type. But that aside, the song is catchy, sexy, and makes me wanna dance my ass off whenever I hear to it.

Then we had Dixon Dallas—the alt persona of rapper Jake Hill—release his new country hit "Good Lookin'." It's a sweet title for a song that is also absolutely raunchy. The song is all about not only being in love, but of getting bred deep by a guy who pounds deep against the "booty cheeks." You may be asking yourself, "Sure, the gays may love it, but is it really marketable?" Well, "Good Lookin'" reached #1 on Spotify's "Viral 50 - USA" song list. So it seems a song about deep bussy fucking is what the country wants-- nay... NEEDS!

Then most recently, Calvin Seabrooks (aka: "Larry Gayvid") released his first single ever, "Friends With Benny." If there was a quintessential "Song of the Summer" then "Friends With Benny" would absolutely fit the bill. It's fun, it's light, it's about casual hookups with our friends, and the video features Seabrooks in a bathing suit, enjoying himself at an outdoor shower, presumably by the beach or a pool. This song is not just a bop, but is also decidedly a song that instantly becomes an earworm.

Even while we're fighting battles of fundamental equal rights, we're doing the absolute most to keep Summer one of the most fun times of the year. Let's keep the trend of Queer artists creating Queer AF music going strong!
