‘Heartstopper’ Season 2 Trailer Just Dropped And It Looks WONDERFUL!

Fleshbot Gay Pop Culture News.

One of the most beloved and celebrated series of the last few years is also decidedly one of the Queerest. Netflix's runaway smash hit Heartstopper was loved by critics and fans everywhere, including by yours truly. For those unfamiliar, Heartstopper is the coming-of-age show that tells the story of British classmates all coming into their own, and the battle for acceptance that is no doubt familiar to anyone reading this article. At long last, the trailer for the highly-anticipated second season finally arrived, and it looks like it's going to be as Queer and as wonderful as the first season (if not more so!).

***Note before reading ahead: SPOILERS AHEAD FOR SEASON ONE!!!***

In the first season, the "will they / won't they" of our main characters was answered with a decisive "they will." Charlie (Joe Locke) solidifies himself as a confidently gay young man, Nick (Kit Connor) inches closer and closer to coming out fully as bisexual, and above all else, the two become the cutest of couples. We also were given a brief taste of Tao (William Gao) and Elle's (Yasmine Finney) mutual (if mostly unspoken) affection for each other, but with those two the "will they / won't they" has yet to be answered. From the looks of the trailer, that's going to be addressed in the second season! And Tara (Corinna Brown) and Darcy (Kizzy Edgell)—the show's beautiful and wonderful lesbian couple—continue to figure out what it means to be in a Queer relationship in HS is still very much uncharted waters.

What looks really wonderful about Season 2 is that it seems like the characters will start to face the real-world problems that come with figuring out your sexuality, as well as navigating the drama that comes along with it. Although the trailer only gives us a few hints about it, we get snippets of the return of Ben (Sebastian Croft), the closeted former interest of Charlie. Ben is rife with the anger that comes with internalized self-hate, and it seems like he'll be trying to weasel his way into our heroes' romantic space with his eyes now focused on Nick instead of Charlie.

The show will also bring us the return of Academy Award winner Olivia Colman as Nick's loving mother, and, honestly, her presence is literally enough for me to watch anything. She's a darling of the LGBTQ+ community, and roles like this are just one of the many reasons! Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know what you think! Will you be joining the rest of the planet in watching Season 2?
