Dean Dante Talks Leather & Lace, Discovering Your Kinky Side, And Importance of Kink Spaces

We are so excited for the Leather & Lace event on July 15 in Akron, OH! What are you most excited for?

Hi Fleshbot! Well, this is our first time bringing Leather & Lace outside of NYC. I’m excited to share our party with other people and to collaborate with artists and performers outside of the city.

You throw the sexiest kink parties, what kinks are your favorites and why?

That’s a tricky one. I like to explore many kinks but my favorites are leather, anon, and definitely pits. I love how a guy smells right after working out at the gym.

Why is it important to have queer kink parties and communities?

I believe that the kink community makes up a large part of queer culture. I have learned, either through my own experience or from listening to others’ journeys, that many of us discover who we are as human beings through our kinks. We find a sense of self and a clearer identity that we can take to all other aspects of our life. These parties give a safe space for everyone to come and embrace their authentic selves.

When did you discover your kinky side?

Well, I’m very sex-positive and body-positive, which I think has made me realize that I have always been pretty kinky ever since I started being sexually active, but I would say it wasn’t until college when I was left to my own devices and had more freedom that I really started to discover what kinks I had. Once I moved to New York in 2011, Pandora’s box was opened. I definitely enjoyed being a gay man in New York City and still do to this day.

You partner up with the gorgeous Audrey Phoenix for Leather & Lace, how did you two start this journey?

We both happened to work at the same queer bar at the time. I was bartending and Audrey had a weekly drag show. It was the first Pride month back after the shutdown from the pandemic. I really wanted to create something special, and immediately thought of a leather night as being one of the big events for the bar that month. I pitched the idea to Audrey and she loved it, but we both wanted to take it a step further and make it an event that celebrates all kinks and fetishes and the communities that are created around them. We actually just celebrated our two-year anniversary with Leather & Lace!

What do you see for the future of Leather & Lace?

I see Leather & Lace becoming a production company that produces different themed events and parties in many cities and even countries. I also want it to become a huge collaborative platform for many vendors and other parties to come together (like MAL or Folsom)… something like a Kink/Fetish Convention.

For the readers out there wanting to tap into their kinky side, what advice do you have for them?

I would say start small. If there’s anything you had a slight fantasy about, try it out with someone you trust, who will play that fantasy out with you, whether it’s fun with food, light bondage play, etc. After your experience, check in with yourself and see what you liked about it and what you didn’t. I would also see what your partner thought about it as well. Don’t be afraid to ask yourself what you find hot. You may be pleasantly surprised.

What's next for Dean Dante?

Well I have multiple parties every month here in the city and I am always working on bringing fun and creative themes to them, but I am hoping to bring this party to another big city soon. Be on the lookout for which city it will be. Also, I am hoping to compete for a title or two this year. So I am focusing on getting prepared for those. Fingers crossed! Haha.
