Hey gurl! There’s a brand new episode of my podcast Hey Gurl! With Jordan Jayro! This week’s episode is a hefty one! I’m giving you nearly two whole hours of gossip and giggles with my very special guest, Militia Scunt! I first heard of Militia when Rock M Sakura was doing press for season 12 of RuPaul’s Drag Race. The queens were asked who were some of their favorite queens who hadn’t been on Drag Race and Rock mentioned Militia Scunt. I immediately thought that was one of the greatest drag names ever and I needed to know this queen! Cut to nearly three years later and we end up doing a brunch together! So you can imagine my joy when she agreed to sit with me for a chat.

Of course, we had to talk about Queen Of The Universe! Militia is currently competing in season two of the show, and it is so good! The level of talent of these contestants is unreal! You have to watch it! And I’m not just saying that because Militia is a friend of the pod. I watched season one like a straight man watches football. Militia shared a little bit about her experience filming the show. We talked about the food in the UK, and which judges were the friendliest.

Somehow the topic of pop stars came up. We ended up talking about record deals and comparing it to being an independent artist. Both Militia and I agreed that nowadays a major label deal isn’t necessarily the only way to make it. We’re noticing a lot more sickening independent artists who are popping off and having huge audiences. At that point, it's better to sign a major label deal. Or don’t! Kim Petras is a great example of an independent artist who signed with a label and is slaying!

Militia and I shared some musical icks of ours. We talked about singers who feel the need to do crazy riffs and runs for no reason. There’s a time and a place! Especially in a cover of an older song! We talked about jazz, and how it’s actually fierce and cute. Also, the way many theatre gays feel the need to shriek and yell these insanely high notes that are actually painful to hear. I was the most surprised to find out that we both share a lack of interest in hearing rapping in musicals. It’s just so corny. I can’t. I’ve tried to give it a chance. It’s just not for me!
