Exclusive Interview: AJ Goes Deep With the Confidently Coy Cody Seiya

What can I say about Cody Seiya? Cody is so much more than his sweet and inviting expression, his sexy body, and his alluring smile. I met Cody early on in my career and have had the pleasure of not only going on to work with him again but developing a friendship with him that is only sometimes clothed. Cody is complex in the most captivating of ways, and even if you've yet to meet him in person, he has the power to captivate you through his work. He and I recently reconnected while working together on a Himeros production in Barcelona. In our downtime, I thought, why not interrogate him?

All right, Cody, this is your first time working with Himeros. So far, we're halfway through. What's the experience been like for you?

It's been pretty incredible! And it's unlike any other experience filming with other studios that I've worked with. It just feels so much more grounded, more sensual. I really appreciate that. It's more based on how we feel and how we connect with the other models. Whereas with other studios, it's more so just like a blind date where you just go in and you hope for the best and that your scene partner is on the same wavelength as you.

We're halfway through the shooting process and you've filmed two scenes. Can you tell us about one of your scenes and the themes behind it, how you enjoyed it, and how you felt about it?

I mean, just because it's the freshest in my memory, I had a really hot scene with AJ Sloan. It was really hot. I mean, already we have chemistry and like, we filmed together before, and it's always been really fun. And we brought it to another level by removing one of our senses in the video, which I thought was really cool.

Which sense was that?

Sight, and you're quite the sight to behold (lol's)! So, yeah, it was really cool because like we know each other's bodies. We know how we look. And now we got to know how each other felt more than we already did. Yeah, even more. And just solely relying on touch and taste and smells and it was unlike any other kind of sex I've had before. And yeah, I took very good care of him. Sorry to third-person you, hahaha.

We're a bit sequestered in a grandiose estate in Barcelona, which you are no stranger to. What's one thing about Barcelona that has you coming back?

Obvious answer. The men are f*cking stunning, actually. Just the people in general are pretty damn sexy. But I think also just being surrounded by so much interesting architecture; like the galleries are just so cool and breathtaking. Making friends with people so easily. I met this person getting coffee. Um, and he came up to me and was like, "Oh, I really like your work. You should come by my shop later." And I did. And it was this really cool local queer bookshop. And I was just like, in heaven and just like looking at local zines and prints. And it was just the city feels really friendly and horny.

Fluent or not, can you give our readers one line in Spanish or whatever you like?

I'll give you two: lo que sea, which is whatever, and no te preocupes which is don't worry about it. Easy go-to's.

So, proper diet and douching aside, how do you prepare for a scene? Mentally, emotionally, that vain.

That's really beautiful and that doesn't get asked often. I like to try and meditate before a scene just because I'm able to just be more present and feel as if I'm in the now. Not to sound like super woo-woo, but it's so easy to get caught up in having other people in the room while you're filming. And also just like creating this negative feedback loop where you're like, "Oh, I'm not hard." "What's wrong with me?" and just talking yourself down and just getting lost in your thoughts. So I think meditating and being able to help clear your mind before going into the scene really makes such a difference.

As for emotionally, I think this happens in the moment, but I do have a partner and I always say I try and fall in love in every scene that I make, just because it makes it more impactful emotionally and you can see it. So sometimes if I do find myself getting a little lost, I think of myself pleasuring my partner. And it's funny because I'll reverse the roles where it's like if I'm bottoming, I imagine me bottoming for him, but then also like when I'm topping, I imagine my boyfriend topping me and just embodying those different roles and those pleasures that I've experienced so many times before. So it almost acts like a safe space in my head.

You have quite the body of art on your body. Can you tell us about one of your more cherished tattoos?

Yeah! I think the one that is underneath my right knee is really beautifully done. It was. I was tattooed by a friend of mine that I went to college with. It's called a "bar bet" tattoo and one of my friends actually has the same one in a different style. And so here's the whole setup. You go to a bar and this is what they would do, like in the '50s or back in the day. You go to a bar and you bet someone next to you "Oh, I bet you a drink that I have a cock that hangs below my knee" and they're like, "What? What are you talking about?" And you lift your pant leg and it's a rooster with a noose around its neck. The friend that has the matching tattoo is in his late sixties. And I just thought it'd be a cute little thing to carry on.

How do you feel your experience in the porn industry as an Asian American has differed from your white peers?

To be honest, it's been a lot harder just because I feel like I have to work twice as hard for half as much. A lot of white and white presenting performers just have so many doors open for them with little to no effort. Before, when I was first starting out, I was trying to fight stereotypes and really try and combat any sort of negative reinforcement about being Asian and having a small cock and like being submissive or feminine or what have you. So as I've sort of matured in the career in the porn-scape, if you will, I feel like I've kind of leaned into some of those things, but in an empowering way where it's like, Yeah, I may be bottoming, but also I'm going to like be a dominant bottom. Or you know, I will top you with my nicely-sized penis (lol's) and you know, it's just a very interesting space to be in, having so many different identities. I'm half Chinese and half Jewish and Queer and like, you know, there's already so much rampant...

Thank you! I'm just me! Yeah, I, I don't know. It's just like combating antisemitism or anti-Asian or just internalized homophobia that other people who have been hurt and maybe feel ashamed of themselves will project onto you. It feels like a constant uphill battle. But I'm just keeping-on and doing my thing. And it feels really great knowing that other people feel empowered by what I'm doing and by them seeing me because there's just such a severe lack of representation. And it feels good to be that representation for folks that are, you know, exploring their sexuality, exploring their sex, and just embracing themselves.

If there was a sexy young dude of color that came up to you and said, "Man, I really admire what you do! I would love to one day be a porn star, too!" What advice would you give them?

That's a really good question. Do not sell yourself short because you are worth so much more than you might think or others might think. And to just enjoy yourself and have fun. And I think that's the most important thing because it's so easy for people to get caught up in the money or the clout or the celebrity of it.

You're also an artist. Can you tell our readers a little bit about your creative side?

I went to school for Illustration and Comics at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. I've always been interested in art and expressing myself creatively. So that just led to me doing narrative illustration. So drawing comics and telling stories and it's something that I still do for fun and I still really enjoy it. And it's something I want to focus on more. And, you know, it's a wide range of subjects that I cover, be it erotica or just some autobiographical comics, just explaining my identity and talking about it and bringing to light the struggles that I have encountered with these many identities as well as like, fun, goofy, like action-adventure sh*t. I don't know. Not everything has to be serious.

What's next for you in the near future? What's 2023 have in store for Cody Seiya?

After this trip, I'm going to meet my boyfriend in Tokyo, and I'm really excited to just be a little dork and do everything and eat everything that I can.

Hell, yeah. I'm down. And then after that, just finally laying low in New York and enjoying the summer. And of course work on my artwork. I'm ready to just dive back into my art-making and practices and tell my story the way I want to.
