Celebrating Our Favorite Idina Menzel Moments Before Her WeHo Pride Performance!

Idina Menzel. Broadway. West Hollywood. Pride. Mmmmmmmm I've got enough drool to give Pavlov a total hardon (IYKYK). Next week, West Hollywood celebrates Pride and helps the community kick off the summer and the slew of Pride events that will follow. Performing at the event is Broadway icon and forever fave of the gays and the theys, Idina Menzel. To celebrate that, we're taking a look at our five favorite Idina Menzel moments that have us wanting to dance our asses off.

Take Me Or Leave Me - RENT (Movie version)

I couldn't do an Idina Menzel post without starting off with the performance that first made her a Broadway legend. Jonathan Larson's beyond-iconic musical RENT is one of the most impactful and successful shows in Broadway history. The show celebrated Queerness, love, art, revolution, and what it was like to fight for your life in NYC during the 1990s. Menzel played Maureen, the bisexual badass performance artist who wants to experience everything life has to offer. Though the movie version is obviously not as amazing as seeing the show live, it did give us some amazing renditions of some of the numbers. Maureen sings "Take Me Or Leave Me" as a way to tell fiancée Joanne this is who I am and I'm not changing. It's a song of self-identity and sexual prowess.

"Defying Gravity" - 2004 Tony Awards Performance

But is it really an Idina Menzel post without "Defying Gravity?" Menzel originated the role of Elphaba, the green witch who just wants to exist the way she was born without being discriminated against, something every Queer person in the world can identify with. This is the performance from the 2004 Tony Awards, where Menzel would go on to win the Tony Award for Best Performance by an Actress In a Leading Role in a Musical.

"Material Girl" - Cinderella (2021)

People seemed to have either loved or hated the 2021 film adaptation of Cinderella, but everyone was in agreement that Menzel was absolutely flawless as evil stepmother, Vivian. The movie was also Camila Cabello's acting debut and given that the movie was the most-watched streaming movie for its opening weekend, millions around the world got to revel in Menzel being the amazing star we all know and love.

"Dream Girl" - America's Got Talent

America may have talent, but Idina Menzel has more! Another song from the movie Cinderella, "Dream Girl" was the perfect number to showcase Menzel's vocal strength on AGT to help promote the film's release. This song is another perfect example of how Madame Menzel is still just as big of a force to be reckoned with as she was 25 years ago when she first broke out on the scene. Also, my gawd she looks stunning in the outfit.

"What I Did for Love" - The White House

Remember when we had a young, cool President leading the country? Before our current 80-year-old whispered-spoke his speeches, and before his fascist predecessor lead an insurrection against the country? Ahhh memories. Well in 2010, President Obama hosted "In Performance at the White House: A Broadway Celebration" in the East Room to celebrate the arts and arts education in America. Menzel performed a few numbers, and one show-stopper was decidedly "What I Did for Love" from 1975's A Chorus Line. Marvin Hamlisch, who wrote the song, performed alongside Menzel and the two brought the House down in one absolutely stunning performance.

If you enjoy all of these performances as much as I do and will be in Los Angeles during Pride, then seeing Idina perform is an obvious "must" for your itinerary.
