Instagram Account Goes Viral for A.I. Images of the GOP in Drag and We’re Living For It

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the hot-button buzz term du jour, and rightfully so! The implications are equally as incredible as they are worrisome. But one of the best uses of AI recently is definitely the new Instagram account, RuPublicans (@RuPublicans). The page uses AI-generated art to depict the leaders of the GOP as drag personas, complete with punny names supplied by real people.

Barely created a week and a half ago, RuPublicans has already garnered almost 95k followers and is a particularly wonderful and Queer AF way of satirizing a group of people who have aimed their ideologies of hate and fear at the LGBTQ community even more than usual, with a particular focus on trans people and drag queens. Here are some of our faves:

Listen, as you probably know by now, this isn't Rudy's first drag rodeo as evidenced by this video of him and recently-indicted former President Donald Trump in 2000. But as horrifying and woefully cringe as that video is, this AI-generated image of "Rudy Garland" is fucking amazing. It's giving Dame Edna-meets-Jennifer Rabbit, but it's also giving us life.

Ron DeSantis - AKA: Ronda Santy

Don't let the fact that Ron DeSantis is on a crusade against Disney distract you from the fact that RON DESANTIS GOT MARRIED AT DISNEY (yes, you read that correctly). And in these pics, Mx. Santy is serving both Disney princess, as well as the more fitting Disney villain.

I hate Ted Cruz so much it's tough to even enjoy these pics, but alas... I fucking love them. It's the butched-up haircuts that do it for me, because I feel like the Bizarro World where these could exist lends itself to a sassy af performer who has seen some sh*t and turned it into kickass art. Instead, we have the real Ted Cruz which is just... *dry heaves*

This is one of my favorite drag names of the bunch, mainly because it plays into the "Lady G" rumors that spread last year regarding Graham's relationship to various male escorts. Alas, no amount of makeup can make this trash palatable to me.

First of all... I will never refer to Mike Pence as "Mother." I'll save that for real queens, and Pence can save that for what he creepily calls his wife. But what I love about these AI-generated images is that, as one commenter said, "...he is soooo basic that AI couldn't do anything with him."

Matt Gaetz may have been investigated for his allegedly questionable relationships, but that hasn't stopped him from baselessly saying drag queens are a threat to our military. Ms. GoldenGaetz Showers, though, is giving us La Cage Aux Folles Original Broadway Cast realness. Slay.
