New Gay Musical About College Jocks In Love Premieres on Amazon Prime!

There are few things in the world that I love more than the theatre, but musical theatre definitely takes the edge. And musicals about gay jocks? Whew. Now you're just taunting me! And Good Enough: A Modern Musical is just that combo!

From first-time director Mike Spears, Good Enough tells the story of two college seniors, Jamal (Jay Towns) and Trevor (Trey Mendlik). The two gorgeous men have wildly different backgrounds and upbringings, but both share two things: their sexuality and the fact that it brings extra layers of dynamics to their family and college lives. Jamal is the star of the basketball team who doesn't have time for "distractions," and Trevor comes from a family with a WASPish mom that just wants "a happy home", a feat that's difficult with his homophobic and racist dick of a dad. Plus, Jamal isn't even sure he's gay, steamy makeout sesh be damned. At one point in the trailer, he tells Trevor, "I'm not, like... gay, if that's what you were going to say."

Besides their sexuality, the two men both grapple with the feelings everyone has as they transition into adulthood: determination pitted against self-doubt, the desire for love but the need to succeed, and the pressures that come with leaving youth behind so they can grow into the men they know they're meant to be. But regardless of the fact that these college seniors are convinced they have their entire futures planned out ahead of them at 21 (didn't we all?), their romance quickly throws that all into beautiful and tumultuous turmoil. And what better way to express yourself than through the gayest way possible: song and dance?

And to be sure, Good Enough isn't just about love and family dynamics, though... it's also hot as fuck with some really badass musical numbers. Spears not only directed the film but also wrote it, including its original R&B/Hip Hop score. In addition to the trailer, the film made a music video for one of their main songs, Spell On Me. The number features the two sexy leads sporting perfectly fitted harnesses and dancing in a smoky room, with a clip from the movie cut in to a crystal ball.

The film was previously selected to appear in the prestigious Palm Springs LGBTQ+ Film Festival before being brought to Amazon Prime. We need these movies to succeed so that streamers like Amazon Prime, Netflix, and Hulu know there is a market for them. So check out this sexy and fun musical with two very sexy leads.
