You GUYS! If you follow me on Twitter you may have already seen it, but for those of you who haven’t heard: I’m nominated for a Grabby Award for Best Screenplay! Me! Your favorite porn writer, Dalton King (or at least I hope your favorite haha) from NextDoorStudios.

So, there are a bunch of reasons why this nomination means so much to me. For starters, this is my very first professional nomination for any of my writing whatsoever. This is a big deal! I don’t know if I’ve said this before, but as much as I love writing porn, my dream is to be able to write scripts for movies and TV shows; I really want my work to one day stand the test of time like that of “Psycho” or “Casablanca.” Obviously, I’m not there yet in my career. But, this is a great first step! I mean holy shit, a writing nomination. I still can’t believe it.

Beyond that, the Grabbys are the only gay porn awards that currently award Best Screenplay. As I’m sure a lot of you probably get, the writing in gay porn is not the most… Well, it’s not usually appreciated that much. And that’s fine! I totally understand. You guys are there to jerk off to hot guys having amazing sex, not necessarily tuning in for heartfelt plot haha. But, I don’t know, it would be nice if this industry would be more willing to recognize the behind-the-scenes work that goes into making porn. I still put in a ton of work to make sure the scenes you guys see are well thought out, and most importantly, sexy. To be recognized for that type of work is nice. It makes me think I’m doing a good job.

The scene I was nominated for was the ND Films scene “Paramour,” starring Trevor Harris and Jayden Marcos. The scene, in short, is about a man who gets cheated on only to find a breath of fresh air with the person his boyfriend cheated with. If I’m being completely honest, I wasn’t expecting the response that I got from this script. The director Conrad Parker did a beautiful job directing it, but I had no idea that a script centered around romance and relationships would strike such a chord with people. Believe me, I understand that romance and relationships are very big in the world but… I don’t know. It still feels somewhat bizarre (and humbling) that the work that I do can actually affect people in such an emotional way.

I feel like I’ve been saying the same things over and over again: I’m grateful, I’m excited, and I had no idea my work would affect people the way it did. But, again, it’s hard for me to see outside of myself, if that makes sense. To me, I’m just a simple porn writer; my goal is to get people off. I’m just really happy that my work affects people in such a way that I can get nominated and can get shoutouts in the comments as to how relatable my writing really is. It makes me think that I can one day achieve my dream of being a screenwriter for Hollywood. And when that happens? You guys can say that you followed my journey from the beginning :)

Also, I would very much appreciate a vote for Best Screenplay at the Grabbys if you like my work! If I win, it will mean I can bring everyone more relatable and emotional content. Anyway, until next time!
