Hey Queers and everyone who loves us! Welcome back to a new week of music! Welcome back. It is the first new music article of the new month. Hopefully, you've been with me, adding new things to your playlists and shaking ass with us.
Our long-form projects are shorter this week, giving no more than 10 tracks, but they pack quite the punch.
Renee Rapp releases a deluxe version of Everything To Everyone. The blonde bombshell is making waves as lesbian character Leighton Murray on The Sex Lives of College Girls and has put together a pretty uptempo, vulnerable, and musically pleasing project.
Key Track: "Colorado" is a self-reflective song about wondering why she chose the devil she knows over something that could be better for her. I can say friends who have moved to Colorado love it.
Channel Tres is back with 5 song project Real Cultural Sh*t bringing it back to his roots. He opens the album remembering being denied access to certain places because of his beats, but look at everybody now. When you way ahead of the game, you just follow your gifts.
Key Track: "6am", a funky soul tune about partying until dawn. I dare you to play this and not want to dance.
Drag Race Season 9 winner Shea Coulee, who rocked every verse challenge during her multiple runs on the show, released her debut album, 8, and I have not stopped playing it. Maybe because I am biased, and she is my favorite all-around drag queen, but the music is excellent and Queer, and she knows what it wants to be.
Key Track: "New Phone Who Dis", because I love spittin' bars over a track Shea.
Jozzy, Diddy's LOVE records signee, has had a wild songwriting run, having written for Monica, Lil Nas X, Beyonce, Summer Walker, Fergie, Mary J, and more releases Songs For Women, Free Game For Ni**as. Diddy proclaims R&B is back, and he just might be right. Diddy will always have an impeccable ear, which shows in this project. Superior writing, slick vocals, and excellent production will have me spinning this more than once.
Key Track: "Commotion". I hope there is a music video for this. Jozzy busts out some MJ moves and takes the game, lol.
Don Toliver released his third album, Love Sick. He expands his sounds by collaborating with producers he has never before. Creating a solid and fresh piece of work.
Key Track: "Honeymoon", the Kaytranada produced track, and all I am saying is, why did this collab take so long?!
In the single universe:
Sigh, Chlöe released, How Does It Feel with Chris Brown, and I don't hate it, but I would have loved seeing more of what she can do independently. I am looking forward to the 3+ min songs because the girl can sangggg.
Kali Uchis spiked in this new song because I cannot get, "Moonlight" out of my head. Feeling on my body sliding sexy down the wall to her breathy vocals and medium tempo. Her album, Red Moon in Venus, comes out Friday. WE READY.
TYGAPAW releases "Pressure", a head-banging fever dream that makes me want to sweat.
Say what you want about DDG, but he capitalizes on recent social media drama. I don't usually go for new male rappers, but he is talking his sh*t, and I stan. Stream, "Way Too Petty" it bumps.
OOMAN is back with "New Purse" after dropping onto the scene with "Miss Got Rocks" and "Berlin" a few months later. Craving a lane of her own with her enigmatic engineering and entrancing lyrics, I want so much more.
Monaleo drops a slick 2:40 mins of her best storytelling over a beat with "Ridgemont Baby". Reminding recent haters that she made herself, point blank, period.
After much speculation about who was going to be on his remix, The Weeknd releases "Die For You" with Ariana Grande who has been MIA busy filming the film adaptation of Wicked. The time away and daily vocal training has done her good. These two are always perfection on a song together.
Rounding out our list this week, my favorite track, other than "New Purse", is "Champagne Dreams" by Asanni Armon. It starts so cunt, and she has bars. "Champagne dreams, Barbie doll things, drape me in Chanel, and fuck me like a fiend." "He thinking he the goat, but I could help him get a billy." ugh. Rap girlies, man. My favorite.
March is gearing up to pack a wallop, Miley drops, Kali drops, Chloe drops. The girls are coming, and I feel we are just getting started.
