The early 2000s was a Golden Age for the legendary Colt Studios and one of the biggest standouts among that studio's stable of exclusive stars was Carlo Masi. With his huge hairy muscles, hypnotic stare, big round Italian bubble butt, and lovely endowment, it's no wonder this versatile performer pretty much embodied every fantasy of every gay man on the planet.
Though he was a huge hit at Colt, Carlo gave it all up for the love of his life, fellow Colt Star Adam Champ. How amazing is it that these two found each other in the industry and are still together?! So romantic! The porn pair even made national news when they got married!
While he looks back on his time in the business fondly (as is just as hot as ever!), Carlo says he does not pay much attention to the business anymore. Fortunately for us, we will always have his past performances. He gave us a much-appreciated update all the way from Italy.
Could you tell us about your journey from joining the porn industry to becoming famous?
It was a total rollercoaster and I loved it! I remember at that time I didn’t have the internet at home, so I went to an internet cafè every day. One day, I received an email from someone who claimed to be the talent coordinator of Colt Studios telling me that they were interested in working with me. He said he saw my profile on a social website. I was, and still am, a big fan of Colt, so I couldn’t believe him because I didn’t think I was good enough to rise Colt Studios' interest. I got in touch with the people of Colt Studio through the official website and found out that the person was telling me the truth. I was thrilled. I had never ever had sex for money at that time, so I spoke with John Rutherford (the owner of the company) and we agreed on a soft scene. Right after shooting the first scene, John offered me an exclusive contract, which implied having to do more than just soft scenes. By then I made up my mind and decided that I was fine with it, so I accepted.
You were at the legendary Colt Studios at a time when they were widely thought of as the top studio of gay porn. What was it like working there?
It was amazing. I was asked for my first autograph before even shooting my very first scene. It happened in the hall of the hotel the day I shot my first scene. A guy saw me with Colt Studio’s crew and told me he didn’t care if I didn’t make any movies yet because I was going to make one that very same day and he was sure I was going to make a splash.
You were one of a very impressive list of performers. Who were some of your favorite costars?
I liked all my coworkers at Colt, but of course, I liked one way more than anybody else, the one that I married: Gustavo Leguizamon also known as Adam Champ.
Still in touch with any?
No, I live in Italy, and we are all very far away.
What were some of your favorite and least favorite parts of being a famous porn star?
I love attention so having the spotlight on me all the time was something that made me very happy. While I love traveling, sometimes that was my least favorite part of the job as I really had to travel too much. I have been to cities I don’t even remember. It’s a shame. Sometimes I would finish working in a club at 4 AM and I had a flight to the next city at 7 AM. It was crazy. Fortunately, I had my Adam next to me to cheer me up when I was tired and blue.
You were a unique performer coming into the business and meeting your partner, Adam Champ. How was it being a couple in the industry? Any challenges?
I had been in the business for a few years when Adam joined the company. I was the big name in the company, and he was the promising newcomer who everybody wanted to know. In the beginning, people thought we started the relationship for business reasons. I am pretty sure it is clear now that it was not just something to promote ourselves.
You two are still together! How is your relationship today?
We are married, monogamous, out of any scene, and we love and support each other as any married couple should. As a couple, we went through rough moments, but we have a solid relationship.
What brought on your exit from the business?
I did everything a porn star can do and I don’t like to repeat myself. Plus, I knew I wasn’t going to grow any fresher so I knew I needed to start building another career before It would get too late.
What was your favorite scene?
My favorite scene was the most horrible and hard to shoot: the one I shot with Adam. We decided to start a relationship the night before. Therefore, for the first time, I was going to share more than just sex in that movie and that made it hard to do. Still, I was with my beloved Adam (it’s so funny calling him Adam nowadays) so I was happy.
Could you tell us about your life today?
Before joining Colt Studio, I had a Master's Degree in Computer Engineering. Right after Colt Studios, I got a Master’s in Mathematics and a Ph.D. in Mathematical Models for Engineering, Electromagnetics, and Nanosciences. During those years, the media found out that an ex-pornstar was a lecturer at the most prestigious Italian university: Sapienza Univerità di Roma. The news spread worldwide and for about one year I was a guest, in and out of Italy, on many TV shows and interviewed by many magazines and newspapers. The most important Italian writer, Strega Prize winner Walter Siti, wrote a book about my story, La Natura è Innocente. Of course, I didn’t miss the chance to pop the question to Adam on one of the most popular TV shows in Italy, Pomeriggio 5. The same show then covered the whole wedding live. The Carlo Masi inside me totally took control of the situation during that year. I loved living that moment, but I am glad it is over now. I loved living that moment, but I am glad it is over now. Now I quit my academic career and work as a Data Engineer.
What should people know about the real man who made "Carlo Masi?"
Basically, anything you might assume to know about me and my life is probably wrong. I never liked going out; I always liked the couple life; I have never been into sex or the party scene; I believe in monogamy; and most of all, I am a total nerd who studies all day nowadays. Also, I love my two puppies Goccetto and Champito more than I can possibly say.
I don’t think the industry exists anymore. Today, people with a smartphone publish their homemade videos on OnlyFans or something similar and they believe they are porn stars. Let me tell you what was like to be a STAR: they flew me all the way from Rome to San Francisco, put me in a hotel, fed me, paid me fees for the movie and for my pics. Moreover, to shoot the scenes they had a makeup artist, a couple of cameramen, a director, a photographer, and a bunch of other people who did who knows what. There was a whole crew working on each shot. Pre-production, production, post-production, packaging, adverting campaigns, release parties, and so on. It was very different from being recorded with a cellphone. The new guys on OnlyFans make good money, but I am not talking about money. I am talking about seeing calendars with your picture on the cover being sold at the Virgin Store in Union Square in New York. I am talking about being recognized everywhere you go in the world. I am talking about being on the cover of coffee table books. I am talking about having a dildo which is a genuine reproduction of your penis. I could go on forever and ever, but I bet you get the point. It was different.
Would you ever consider a comeback?
If I was 30 again, I would definitely come back, but I am 46 and I believe that there is an age to be a reckless, crazy man who tries everything new and a time to be a stable, reliable man. I loved my years in the industry, and I will always look back at those days with pride, but those days are gone and I have new days and new challenges ahead to make myself proud of the person I have become.
