Anthony Bowens Makes (Gay) Wrestling History and Bares Heart on Instagram!

As I wrote about last week, out-gay wrestler Anthony Bowens (and fans thereof) had fingers crossed that he would make history as the first gay wrestler to win the All Elite Wrestling (AEW) Dynamite and Rampage. Sure enough, this muscular man-pinner won the 2022 Grand Slam Rampage at the historic Arthur Ashe Stadium in NYC as part of the incredible wrestling duo The Acclaimed. Not only is Bowens the first gay AEW Champion, but he also claimed the most tag team wins in the AEW.

In a tear-filed post on his Instagram page, Bowens says, “I’m going to take a moment to share something I don’t really talk about much in front of the camera. And some of you know and some of you may not know, but I never thought I’d be able to have a moment like this. I never thought I would be able to live my dream, because there was a time when I was very confused. And I didn’t know how to accept myself. But I fought through that ******* [the words are beeped out]. I fought through all that *******. And now I cry because I’m a champion,” he said through tears, championship belt high in the air. “Max, and I, The Acclaimed, we are champions!"

He continues with more words of inspiration to all of us who are pushing through life, saying, "So if you’re someone who feels like me... it doesn’t even have to be about your sexuality. It could be you’re depressed, you’re bullied in life or life just sucks, just know that everything gets better. We're living proof of that. I love you. We love you."

Before ending the video, he also gets in some well-earned celebrating, as well as a quick drop of their now-famous catchphrase, saying, "But most importantly everyone loves the acclaimed! Now, Scissor Me Daddy!"
