Kenzie Taylor Talks Going from Nurse to Porn Star, Her Gay Porn Directorial Debut for Next Door Studios, & Misconceptions about Women in Porn

There are so many incredible performers, directors, artists, and people in the adult film world. One of the great joys I have in working in it is that I get to meet so many of them. And when I get to chat with someone who is all of those things wrapped up into one?! Well, then I really love my job. No better example of that than Kenzie Taylor. Kenzie is not only a famed porn star, but she is currently making the leap behind the camera with her directorial debut for our friends at Next Door Studios. I had the pleasure of interviewing Kenzie, and got to learn all about her arc as a star, as a director, and a little bit more about the woman behind the art!

Congrats on making your directorial debut, which is being released with NextDoor at the end of this month. What can you tell our readers about it?

Thank you! It’s a REALLY hot scene with a twisted scenario. Originally, it was just going to be Michael Boston being our top for the day….but things got so hot during the sex scene both Michael AND Joseph top one another. So that was a sexy surprise! The acting during dialogue portions was great from everyone as well. I’m thankful for Michael Boston, Joseph Castlian, Johnny Ford, & my entire crew!

Was it important to you that your directorial debut be a gay porn? Tell me about that.

It was absolutely important! It’s most definitely an honor that Next Door Studios took a chance on allowing me to direct/produce for them. It means a lot to me that my directorial debut is gay porn because it’s something I’ve always wanted to do. I’ve looked up to others such as the legendary Chi Chi LaRue, one of my favorite people ever Aiden Starr, and the talented Mr. Pam. I feel the most at home in the LGBTQ+ community. It's where I'm able to be myself 100% without judgement. The type of atmosphere I wanted my set to have is no judgement, tons of encouragement, exploring sexual desires in a safe space and creating art..and that’s exactly what we did!!

Tell me about your start in porn. What was your first project? Did it go well?

I started porn in 2015, I was 25 years old. It’s something I always wanted to do. One day I finally got the guts to just say fuck it, I’m not happy in nursing, I’m going to try doing something else I’ve always wanted to. I sold almost everything I owned except my clothes & car, drove across the country to the West Coast moving to LA, not knowing anyone and not knowing where I was going to live. It was quite the adventure! My first project ever was a boy/girl scene with Mark Wood, directed by Mike Quasar. It went really well! Luckily, I got an industry veteran for my co-star and a director who’s a veteran in the industry as well. Mike was extremely helpful and I really appreciate him to this day. I was super nervous because I had no idea how to have “porn sex”—I didn’t even really know what that meant. Come to find out it means opening up for the camera, making sure we’re open to the lights at all times as well.. etc. But I loved it…Learned more, changed, evolved, continued on and here I am!

Tell me about Secret Affairs!

Secret Affairs came about while just brainstorming. I actually love coming up with scenarios, storylines or even down to the things such as wardrobe, set design, etc. I wrote the script up then sent it to NextDoor’s writing team. They only changed a couple things on it, understandable considering that was my first time ever writing a script. The scenario is twisted and at the end you’re really blown away, I love it. I don’t want to go into too much detail in case this comes out before the release!

What are the biggest changes you've seen in your time in the industry?

The biggest changes I’ve seen in the industry have been a lot to deal with safety on set for us performers. Completing consent forms, checklists, going over what is ok and is not ok, going over safe words or just saying cut. I think that’s a really important thing that was implemented and makes me (and I’m sure many others) feel safer on set.

Any misconceptions about being a woman in porn?

The biggest misconceptions I personally get as being a woman in porn I would have to say (other than being objectified quite frequently) is that I’m uneducated, that I have sex with anyone and everyone, it’s impossible to have a healthy/happy relationship and/or marriage if you’re a pornstar, that us women are abused and porn is so violent, my family hates me, I'm in porn just to workout any trauma or abuse that may have occurred in life.

Does porn ever get political?

Sometimes it does for sure. I personally try to stay away from anything political when it comes to the business or even my personal friendships. A lot of stuff is social media based unfortunately, which it’s hard to tell what is honest and dishonest.

Tell me more about yourself! Hobbies? Other languages? Pets? Fun trips coming up?

I enjoy doing so many different things! I’ll just name a few:" working out, traveling, going to the beach, attending concerts, hiking, surfing, learning camera/editing and more! I only speak English but I want to learn Spanish! I've got two French Bulldogs! Their names are Benny & Frankie. I'm always traveling so there's a fun trip always coming up. My next trip I'm taking I'll be going to NYC, looking forward to having some NYC pizza!
