Queer, LGBT TV & Movies to Stream This July

CELEBS

Every now and then the streaming services all seem to dump a few things, keep a few staples, and pick up some new stuff, as well. And so the butterfly becomes the caterpillar... or something. I dunno. Here's a look at some of the Queer content that's coming to streaming services that we're super excited about.

Tuca & Bertie (HBO Max)

There are few actors out there who have seemingly had a more enjoyable last number of years than Tiffany Haddish. She has starred in everything, and seemingly has her hand in every medium out there. Add to that list Queer, animated, adult-themed shows on HBO Max. Haddish stars as bisexual toucan Tuca, opposite the incredibly hilarious Ali Wong's Bertie, the anxious songbird. The show almost fell victim to the trash bin over at Netflix, but HBO Max new a good thing when it saw one and made sure the show lived another life. The show came to HBO Max on July 1st so it's ready for you to check out!

Uncoupled (Netflix)

What would the gay zeitgeist be without one of the darling homos of America: Neil Patrick Harris? NPH's new series on Netflix tells the story of a 40-something gay man whose partner of 17 years splits with him out of nowhere. Figuring the best way to get over his ex is to live his hot boy life, NPH's Scott goes about hitting the scene again. If the trailer is a good reflection of the quality of the show, I think it looks great! Seems like we're going to get a good balance of funny, with sad, with hot, which should make for some great TV. The show drops on July 29th, and co-stars Marcia Gay Harden, Tisha Campbell and Tuc Watkins.

Anything Is Possible (Prime Video)

Tony and Emmy Award winner, and all-around Queer icon Billy Porter is adding another word to his multi-hyphenate in the form of "director." Anything Is Possible tells the story of a trans teen named Kelsa (Eva Reign) who is trying to make her way through the muddy mess of being a senior in high school who has to deal with family and a love life, and being trans in blue collar Pittsburgh, where word spreads quickly about who is dating whom! The show looks really wonderful, but in particular I'm really looking forward to the performances from the two young leads. As you see in the trailer they both looks like pretty damn good actors! I can't wait to dive in on July 22.

Milk (Hulu)

His name was Harvey Milk and he was here to recruit us. And recruit us he did. Now on Hulu starting this month, Milk is the incredible, Academy Award-winning movie about America's first openly Queer elected official, Harvey Milk, played exceptionally by Sean Penn. The movie is, in my mind, one of the most well-cast movies ever made, as every actor not only looked exactly like their real-life counterpart, but also seemed to embody them with incredible accuracy, as seen in side-by-side footages. Milk also has one of my favorite quotes of all time. When would-be murderer Dan White ask, "Can two men reproduce?" Harvey responds with, "No, but god knows we keep trying."

Mean Girls (Netflix)

No doubt one of the great Queer films of all time, Mean Girls is finally hitting Netflix and will obviously become one of the most watched videos in my queue for sure. The movie stars an in-her-prime Lindsay Lohan, as well as an incredible supporting cast, including baes Daniel Franzese and Jonathan Bennett. Even if you've never seen the movie, you've no doubt heard some of its now zeitgeist level quotes. "He doesn't even go here!", "He's too gay to function", "You can't sit with us" and "So you agree... you think you're really pretty."

RuPaul's Drag Race - Season 9 (Hulu)

During the course of the evolution of RuPaul's Drag Race, we have seen countless iconic performances. But few seasons can claim that they have arguably THE most iconic performance in Drag Race history, and in their season finale no less. On the chance that you're going to embark upon the season/series for the first time, I won't spoil who wins, but the season features such icons as Sasha Velour, Peppermint, Valentina, and current All Stars competitors Trinity the Tuck & Shea Couleé. Season 9 was definitely one of the great seasons, and if you're in the mood for a great binge, this might be the perfect time to check it out!
