Mid-Week Pop Culture Wrap Up (Part 2): What You Need to Know in Video Games, Books, Podcasts and More!

GAY MERCH & MUST HAVES

Earlier this week, we covered what you should be watching and what you should be listening to in our Wrap Up Part 1. Now it's time to go over some hot tips for video games you should be playing (when you're not playing with yourself that is), books you should be reading, and podcasts you should give a listen. Check out what is on our ‘It List’ for mid-May and try to keep up with it!

Play It

Evil Dead: The Game - PS4/PS5/Xbox Series X

Gaymers rejoice! Sam Raimi’s hit horror franchise is debuting a brand new video game installment and it promises to be a bloody good time. The last chapter in this video game franchise, Evil Dead: Regeneration, came out in 2005, so let's hope the edging and waiting for this game pays off.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong - Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S

This role-playing video game is based on the tabletop role-playing game Vampire: The Masquerade, and is part of the larger World of Darkness series. The game clearly has a flare for dramatics and gore and looks quite sexy and hot. It promises to be quite a treat for our more adventurous and fantasy-driven gaymers.

Read It

I Kissed Shara Wheeler by Casey McQuiston

This new young adult novel has all the things that make for a fun, juicy gay drama. This story centers around a high school valedictorian, her rival (with whom she shares a lesbian kiss per the title?), and a small town in Alabama where nothing is as it seems.

Everything for You by Chloe Liese

This is a must read for gays of all ages. The plot mixes sports, feuds, hate, and steamy hot love all into a whirlwind story about a young soccer player and a seasoned team captain at odds but also remarkably attracted to one another. Trigger warnings for the book include topics of anxiety, panic attacks, sports injuries, sexual content, and homophobia, so you know it is going to be good. I’d wager this is on a shortlist for the next Netflix or HBO adaptation.

Nate Plus One by Kevin van Whye

Who is in for an exuberant and swoon-worthy gay rom-com in book form?! This page-turner is perfect to read while lounging poolside or relaxing in the park. We’ve all had a secret crush on our best friend, and we’ve all had to scramble to find a plus one to our cousin’s wedding, so this material is RELATABLE. It is such a thrill to see gay representation in this genre of book and important we show support for it so publishers get more confident putting money behind these types of stories.

Podcast It

LGBTQ&A – Apple Podcasts

A podcast with weekly interviews featuring the most interesting LGBTQ+ people in the world? Definitely going to hit subscribe on that one. LGBTQ&A is produced by The Advocate magazine, in partnership with GLAAD and hosted by the incomparable Jeffrey Masters. There are already a number of fascinating episodes with fabulous guests like Laverne Cox, Pete Buttigieg, Rufus Wainwright, and Harvey Fierstein, just to name a few! There are new episodes out weekly through May and hopefully beyond, so tune in!

That’s it for May! Keep an eye out for next month…June will definitely be bustin' all over, and I will be here to make sure you get a good facial of entertainment gossip, updates, and tips.
