The temperatures are finally starting to heat up, the shorts are getting tighter, and the crop tops are getting shorter…hot gay summer is officially upon us. In addition to getting sloppy and handsy on the dance floor and traveling to hot nude beaches this summer, we have been blessed with a fabulous slate of gay movies and TV shows for those recovery nights you’ll need on the couch. We’ve come a long way in our fight for normalized gay content on TV and in theaters, so do your part now and support our fellow queer filmmakers and entertainers, or else! Here are some of the trailers to get you excited for what’s going to come this summer.
Fire Island – June 3 on Hulu
SNL favorite Bowen Yang (the iconic iceberg from the Titanic) leads the cast in this comedy-drama set in the infamous Fire Island Pines.
Why this trailer has me excited?
In just over two minutes of preview footage, I’m seeing a TON of very attractive men in speedos, so that piques my interest and gets the blood flowing. Aside from the moving thirst traps, I’m here for a film with a diverse cast showcasing gay Asian talent. From the dialogue in the trailer, I can see this also will hold a mirror up to some of the less attractive parts of gay culture, like body-shaming, race-shaming, and class-shaming, which are all super important topics we need to address as a community. No matter what, this movie promises to deliver the trifecta of heart, drama, and cock.
Heartstopper – New Episodes on Netflix
Love, Simon walked so Heartstopper could fly. This trailer will transport you right back to the innocent (I use this term loosely) adolescent version of you, and your first crush on the hot jock in school. For me, it was Paul Henderson, a tall, blonde, hunk of man who transferred in our sophomore year, became the star athlete of the school, and could make you instantly hard just by smiling in your direction.
Why this trailer has me excited?
I love a good teen gay dramedy, and I can already tell this will be a tearjerker (something that you can cry to but some hot locker room scenes you can jerk off to as well).
Uncoupled – July 29 on Netflix
This one is by the creator of Emily in Paris, Younger, and Sex and the City, so I don’t think the plot really matters, you know its going to be good.
Why this trailer has me excited?
The only time I’ve been glad to hear a guy say “suit up” was Neil Patrick Harris delivering his signature catchphrase on How I Met Your Mother, so I am very excited to see him in this starring role. It is a short teaser for the show, but it looks like there is lots of potential to see some hot guy on guy action. The content is obviously going to be relatable to most of the viewers since we’ve all had to jump back on that ‘singles train’ at one point or another. This trailer looks fun, but the show seems like it might fall flat or take a turn south, and not in the blowjob way, so don’t quote me on this one, fellas.
Jonathan Agassi Saved My Life - Theatrical Release May 2022
If you are a sapiosexual, or if you had to look up what that meant but still want to do something to seem smart to that hot new guy who just moved in down the hall from you, there is a new documentary hitting theaters that is sure to strike a chord. Yes, documentaries can be boring, but this is subject matter near and dear to your heart—something you’re already an expert in…gay porn. This film explores the life of Jonathan Agassi, one of the world’s most successful gay adult stars.
Why this trailer has me excited?
This documentary is extremely personal and shows the meteoric rise and equally explosive decline of an adult film star. It was filmed over eight years, and everything about it is authentic, which is both titillating and terrifying. The doc has already racked up several accolades at local film festivals and the trailer has me thirsty for more details on Agassi’s personal life (and googling some of his hottest scenes).
Conversations With Friends – May 15 on Hulu
Yes—the gay couple on display in this one is a lesbian couple, but they always show up for gay men and it's time gay men show up and support them as well.
Why this trailer has me excited?
T-Swift’s sexy beau is the man candy in this one, so that has my dick at least at like, semi-chub. Now that my little head has gotten his say, my head up top knows that Sally Rooney (the writer) owns this shit, and she can make you laugh or cry or feel joy or pain, all in a few words. This is totally perfect for a night in with a gallon of ice cream or box of tissues, for whichever way the mood goes.
