RIP Steve “Titpig” Hurley, The Famed Porn Star Passes Away at 64

The porn industry lost one of the greats this week, with the passing of Steve Hurley (born Paul Yinger), better known to many by his performer name: “Titpig.” Confirmed by friends and family, the iconic film star and HIV activist passed away on Sunday, April 17th at the age of 64.

The inspiration for NastyDaddy, Hurley was known around the world for his passionate performances, and his infamously puckered nipples, from which he gained the moniker Titpig. At their biggest, Hurley's nipples measured almost 2" long, and almost 1/2" in girth, and was credited by the Bay Area Reporter with, "almost single—handedly [popularizing] the visual erotics of the enlarged male nipple." For almost two decades Hurley’s name and performances were synonymous with the idea of “Daddy.” Often seen smoking a cigar or pipe, the bearded beaut was the quintessential hairy-chested burly man. I loved Hurley's performances for the same reason that I love the art of Tom of Finland. Hurley's art connected us to the classic notions of rugged, cigar-smoking male bonding and fucking, while bridging the gap into the modern era of downloadable porn.

The outpouring from the porn community has been an avalanche, further demonstrating both his professional and personal impact on people everywhere. He was “the most loving scene partner I’ve ever had,” said Anthony Duran of Ducati studios. The two worked together two decades ago at Catalina and remained friends since. Of his death, porn star Christian Mitchell tweeted, “I’m heartbroken” in response to one fan’s condolences, tweeting his own homage, as well.

While he embodied “Daddy” in his performances, he also embodied it in his everyday life. Retiring from the performing side of the business in 2012, Hurley remained a mentor to many a younger homo, as well as in his care for the community in his activism work.

The former president of the Palm Springs Leather Order of the Desert (PSLOD), Hurley’s commitment to the leather community was known to all who are tapped into it, but his care for the community extended even past the realm of the niche and the kink. A registered nurse in his personal life, Hurley worked for numerous HIV prevention organizations helping to ensure the future would be better for the next generation. He will be missed by all who knew his work, both in porn and in activism.
