One of the biggest misconceptions about porn stars is that they fell into the business because they couldn’t succeed as more “legitimate” performers. Nothing could be further from the truth, and a perfect example of that is Titan Man Scotch Inkom.
Before showing off his perfect body and killer smile in porn, Scotch was a very successful dancer who toured in ballet companies, the Broadway stage, and even did backup for Celine Dion (how fantastically, fabulously gay must that have been?!). While he was only in the adult business for a relatively brief period, he still made some sizzling hot scenes that all still hold up.
Scotch Inkom joined us for an interview to talk dirty dancing, dirty movies, falling in love, and finding a whole new career and life path as a shamanic practitioner.
Could you share with us your journey from first joining the industry to becoming a star?
Really great question because it’s not a simple decision to make, especially given that I had had a career in the performing world. I wasn’t sure if committing to being in porn would close doors in the future. There was a lot of uncertainty, but ultimately I just wanted to do it. Ha. Always had. How it actually began is that Titan saw photos of me online and asked if I was interested. I had to think about it for a while, but having had a performing career, it just felt like stepping into a new role of sorts; but what really struck me as different from my theatre background is that the directors, casting people, etc were really respectful. That was rarely the case for me in ballet companies or other performing roles. I remember how encouraging everyone was in the [adult] industry, which I appreciated. It takes a lot of courage to actually do something like porn.
You are a unique performer in that you came to porn after already being a successful performer of the "legit" theatre. What brought on this change?
The short answer is age. Ha. I retired from the ballet world in 2001, then I was on tour with Fosse, and wound up as a back-up dancer for Celine Dion, which were slightly easier on the body than a full-time ballet company schedule, but by 35 (2005), it was time to retire. It just gets to the point where you can’t jump up and down for a living anymore. And it wasn’t even the body that gave out first. It was my energy level. I just couldn’t keep up with the 18-year-olds anymore. That’s when you know it's time to retire.
How does the world of porn compare with the Broadway theatre?
As I mentioned earlier, I found the people in the porn industry extremely caring and fun. I really enjoyed working for Titan. It was like a family in a way, whereas the traditional theatre world has a lot of egos. Yes, certain porn performers can be too, but I found it to be less common. People in porn want to have fun. It’s the whole gig. Get your rocks off. That’s the job description. So along with that there comes an openness amongst your co-workers. I found it super liberating. It really was freeing and transformative for me. It helped me see myself in a new light and I loved the experience.
What brought on your exit?
Love. Love brought on my exit from the industry. I was still doing porn when John and I met, however he wasn’t thrilled with that being a big part of our lives. And I had kinda gotten out of it what I was looking for and felt like I had ’scratched that itch’. :) But let me tell you the story from the beginning. When John and I met online, we were living in separate states. I was in Utah and he was in California. We met on Facebook, and, when he sent me a friend request, I noticed we had the same birthday so I accepted his friend request and messaged him that it was interesting that we were both born on May 12th. That started us chatting online, which lead to calls, which lead to hours and hours of FaceTiming, even though we had never met in person. In a way, we did the long-distance thing for three months before ever coming face to face. It’s that bonding time that I attribute to our success as a couple because we know we work as more than lovers. We thrive as friends.
What was your favorite scene and why?
Oof…… Not even a contest. There’s a scene in Jury Duty where David Anthony is just f*cking the hell outta me on a desk. Then I start asking him to hit me. Good lord in a manger… that man LET. ME. HAVE. IT.
I remember when the scene was done everyone from probably the entire building had made their way to watch because we were being so loud. There was this moment of silence afterward, like something major had just happened. It was kinda amazing and insanely hot.
Who were some of your favorite fellow performers and why? Still in touch with any?
Marco Wilson and Dirk Caber, and I still keep in touch. Then as I mentioned, David Anthony was amazing to work with. Danny King was my first scene partner ever. He was great and wasn’t new. He went out of his way to make me feel comfortable. The hardest part of the whole damn thing however is they put us in the same room together to sleep the night before the beginning of the shoot…and you know you can’t touch each other. I swear they do that on purpose to heighten the moment when you finally get to put your hands on each other. By then honey…you are ‘ret to go.
Anybody you didn't work with but wish you had?
Dirk Caber and I were in Jury Duty together but never had a scene together— at work ;) But there are lots of others whose work I wouldn’t have minded finding my business up in the middle of. ;) But that was, of course, before I met John. They would need his approval. LoL.
How are you today? Where are you at in your career and in life?
Thanks for asking. I’m doing really well. This month I’m launching a new real estate training program in Palm Springs and I have written a book series that’ll be published later this year. The real estate job satisfies me as a teacher. Maybe it was being a performer all those years, but I love to be in front of a class and helping people to learn something new. I’m super passionate about it and I give weekly TedTalk-type discussions on YouTube.com/Daleallenrowse We cover everything from energy work and my work as a Shamanic Practitioner to personal evolution of both the mind and spirit. It’s really fun and I think people enjoy my point of view as a super over-the-top gay energy worker who leverages Shamanism as a practice.
Then for big-picture life stuff, my husband and I have five dogs and bought a ranch last year up in the mountains above Palm Springs. John and I are about to celebrate our sixth wedding anniversary. I’m so damn happy. John and I truly love each other and we’re truly still into each other, like we were over a decade ago when we finally came face to face after only talking on our phones for months. Our sex just keeps getting better and better. It’s literally mind-blowing at this point. We’ve been together for so long now, my husband knows all the buttons honey. My god.
Would you ever consider a comeback?
I mean never say never, but I think I’m good. Trust me…I’m getting what I need at home.
