Most porn stars come and go. Some come and go, and then come back again. Then there is a select few who come and go, then come back and become a completely different kind of performer with more success than ever before. One such extra special performer is Kyle Brandon. Kyle went from a cute twink in the mid-90s to a muscly man’s man in the 2000s. He then left the porn scene for nearly a decade, before coming back as an extra kinky daddy with an entire stable of gorgeous playthings.
Kyle literally grew up on camera, but his life off-camera sounds like it was even more exciting. He joined us for an interview to share some of his fondest memories.
Could you share with us your journey from first joining the industry to becoming a star?
Its actually quite clear, back in the very early 1990s (when things were done through actual print and movies were on VHS) I was working as a security guard at a nightclub called Tracks in DC. Reading through the local gay paper I saw an advertisement for Bob Jones Productions looking for models. It was a small kinky video company and when I saw they were local, I sent in a couple of pictures and within a couple of days I began my porn journey.
You had one of the longest and most prolific careers in the business, working for all of the different studios in all kinds of different scenes. Would you take us through your evolution in the business?
Starting out with Bob Jones productions, I was a skinny kid and never had a "porn career" on my mind, but as I started to work up the chain of video companies (Zeus Studios, Hot House, Catalina), I started setting goals to keep getting bigger and setting my sights for the top company, Falcon Studios. During my time in the spotlight, I kept pretty active with performances and it helped my career when I became an International Drummer from 1996-97. This wouldn't have happened for the fact that I was a kept boy and was able to move to West Hollywood from the East Coast. I actually did this move twice!
How do the cultures of the different studios compare with others?
Back then, everything was by word of mouth. Most of the companies did a pretty good job at keeping things professional. I never found myself in a bad situation that I had to get out of on a set. Although, again back then, there was this mentality at a few of the companies that straight boys were the hot product. Personally, I played a married man for five years, and having sex with a "straight" man did nothing for me. Here's a side story about that. I was supposed to be fucked in a scene and he had to go in the back and get hard with naked pics of women. At one point, he came running out saying he was about to cum and the scene quickly turned into an oral scene and instead of getting 1k, I was paid 500 for an oral scene.
The '90s and early 2000s, when you were one of the biggest stars, is often seen as a Golden Age of Gay Porn. Do you agree? What do you think made that period so special?
Well, thanks for the compliment. I don't know about being one of the biggest, but back then it was a small community, a lot of companies began in the '90s and models were hired in part, by reputation. Remember, this was back when customers would order a VHS tape and get it sent through the mail!
What was your favorite scene and why?
Hands down, my favorite scene was with Titan Media Fallen Angel. During the height of my career, I was asked to do a porn movie during international "Mr. Leather" in 1997 by a company I wasn't familiar with. Now, understand, I wasn't so sure about doing a video during an event I already had a tight schedule at, but after seeing their work I agreed to it. I did make it clear, that in order to be a real leather movie, the traditional start and stopping of a scene and changing angles wouldn't work. It needed to flow and to their credit and in my opinion, to the success of the movie, that's what they did. Also, I got to do the scene with my boy at the time, Steve Cannon, and the dreamy model Jim Buck. Our chemistry between Jim and I exploded and we actually went back to my hotel room and continued our "connection."
Who were some of your favorite fellow performers and why? Still in touch with any?
Jake Andrews. We did a couple of scenes in the movie Hard as Marbles. We had a two-day shoot and he was simply a sweetheart the entire time. Besides being a hunk, he was kind and gentle during our shoots and always made me feel special. Also, there was Max Grand. While we never performed together he was one of my best friends at the time. Sadly, after I left the industry, I lost touch with almost everyone from the industry.
Anybody you didn't work with, but wish you had?
Danny Summers and Tom Chase. Danny was just a beautiful man all around and, while Tom and I played with each other off-camera, he was another hunk who was just a sweet soul who I missed out on an on-set scene with. I am still in touch with Tom and he has an open invite to my playroom.
You took a long break from the business and are now back starring in kink videos. What brought you back to this genre?
Well, let's first talk about why I left. Like so many other porn stars from that decade, I was not immune to the cost of recreational drugs. I tried to break into the 24/7 webcam business, and, while I had some success at it, there weren't enough hours in the day to get everything done and I relied on stimulants as a crutch and it nearly destroyed me. I am just thankful I found my way out and began a quiet life in South Jersey. What brought me back is being sober and I found Twitter and JustForFans.
I have always been into kink and always had a rather extensive playroom, I realized my play scenes were popular and decided to re-enter the industry as a self-producing content provider and I haven't looked back after two years of making it. I am extremely lucky my reputation of play has brought me some of the most amazing beautiful men from the Twitter world. Including my slave Devin Franco and the most recent adonis Quin Quire.
How does working in the business now compare to your earlier time?
Night and day! I create content on my schedule and what I want. The only person who needs to be pleased with the scene is the bottom/boy/slave and myself. I am simply sharing an insight to my play and there's only one person in control from start to finish and that is me.
How are you today? Where are you at in your career and in life?
I am happy and content with life. I have a great foundation here in Chicago. I own an amazing townhome in Edgewater and live rather comfortably. I have a small number of rotating boys who do extended visits and can't ask for much more. As far as my career goes, I plan on continuing to make kinky content and hopefully find my own platform to share it in the future.
