Sigh, if only we knew then what we know now. Brian J. Smith is truly one of the most gorgeous creatures to ever grace this planet, and da bich just gagged the kiddos by coming out in a cover spread for Attitude Magazine. Brian starred in one of the most iconically gay shows in television herstory, Sense8, where he got all sorts of sensual with fellow studs like Max Riemelt and Miguel Ángel Silvestre during those epic Sense8 orgies. Oh and his character was a sexy buff ruff Chicago police officer. Ugh I would have done so much cyberstalking had I only known!
Here's what Brian had to say to Attitude about growing up closeted in Texas:
I was terrified. At school I really couldn’t fit in anywhere. I wasn’t a jock or a nerd. Forget about any [LGBTQ+] union or groups. There was absolutely nothing. I was completely alone. I heard all the names: p—-, f—–.
I could never be who I was. I was constantly having to check myself and make sure I wasn’t looking at someone too long or making someone feel uncomfortable.

Brian underscores the importance of playing an LGBGQ+-identifying character on Sense8 with:
I thought, ‘Finally, I can just be myself, I don’t have to put on airs for any of these people.’
And adds that he's found a way to channel the struggles he faced as a closeted man into his work:
I had to be very, very careful about telling people the truth about myself. It still reverberates. A lot of my work is about that. The things that move me as an actor are those echoes that come up.
Even in 2019 coming out can be extremely trying, and we're so happy that Brian is finally able to live life as his authentic self. Dating will surely be very difficult for him. Congrats gurl!
