I've noticed that kids half my age are using the phrases "low key" and "high key" a lot, and I'm low key into it. Conversely, I'm high key into the stunning actors, romantic storyline, and gay fucking that happens in the Spanish-language flick Esteros, which is streaming on Netflix now! When I say you need to watch this movie ASAP, I mean wow. Ya do. I actually low key don't cry that much, but Esteros had me high key in tears. AM I YOUNG YET.
The story introduces us to tween best friends Jeronimo and Matias, who explore a burgeoning attraction to one another without the stigma of sexuality. Life, however, catches up to their idyllic summers on the farm, and eventually Matias moves away with his father, and later navigates life as a straightie. Jeronimo grows up to embrace his homosexuality, and when the two meet many years later as adults, Matias embraces Jeronimo's sexuality as well! Meaning his butthole. But will the relationship last, or will it simply be a fleeting memento of years gone by?
I'm not going to spoil the ending of this gem for you, but, as someone who watched both God's Own Country And Esteros this weekend, I can say that Esteros is the love story that I personally think will have more resonance with many gays. I even Googled my elementary school crush after watching this. He's now a Trump supporter and his favorite book, according to Facebook, is the Bible. Obvy gay.
Esteros takes a Call Me By Your Name approach in not focusing on the gay sex too much, and instead highlighting the flirtation and palpable chemistry between the leads. However. Matias (played by the gorgeous Ignacio Rogers) and Jeronimo (played by the equally gorgeous Esteban Masturini) do strip down for a surprising and passionate flip fuck! And we've got the proof right here. If you've seen Esteros, please please please let us know your thoughts in the comments, because this needs to be discussed!
