New Doc Peers Into The Life Of Montgomery Clift

CELEBRITY

It's as if 2018 is the year to dig up footage of gay and bisexual legendary actors just to admire them - and I'm here for it. We've learned a lot about Tab Hunter's affair with fellow actor Anthony Perkins, and now we're diving into Hollywood heartthrob Montgomery Clift's troubled life.

The documentary, Making Montgomery Clift, premiered at the ArcLight Hollywood during the L.A. Film Festival. It focuses on the happier times throughout the actor's life rather than the self-destructive behavior we know him for.

Montgomery Clift, who identified as bisexual, starred in films such as The Misfits, From Here To Eternity, and A Place in the Sun. He abused drugs and alcohol from an early age and died of a heart attack at age 45.

The film was produced and directed by Clift's nephew, Robert Clift, who funded the project through a GoFundMe campaign.

"I was always aware that there was a disconnect" between the public perception of Clift and the man his loved ones knew, Clift says. "It was just never addressed in any systematic manner. This film gave me an opportunity to explore that."
