With the current state of our society, having a show like RuPaul's Drag Race on television almost brings a sense of comfort that perhaps wasn't as strong before 2016. Ten seasons in (and three All-Star seasons), Mama Ru and her girls are still going strong and everyone is taking notice of the charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent it takes to put on such a show - including the Television Academy.
RuPaul and RPDR have received 12 Emmy nominations, marking what is the most received at one time for VH1. The show has already snatched four Emmys in the past, with RuPaul himself receiving two for outstanding host for a reality or reality-competition program.
"Making RuPaul’s Drag Race is a labor of love," RuPaul said in a statement. "The fact that members of the Television Academy have recognized that passion by nominating us for 12 Emmy’s is a true honor."
RuPaul is once again nominated for outstanding host, while the show is nominated for outstanding reality-competition program, outstanding directing, outstanding hairstyling and outstanding makeup for multi-camera special or series, and more. Two of these Emmy nods are also for RPDR's after-show Untucked.
Let's hope it's a sweeping win for Mama Ru and her girls. It's about damn time.
