It's 2018. Nothing seems right. North Korea is a friend of ours, IHOP is shoving burgers down our throats, and sex tapes are back! Specifically former professional wrestler Hulk Hogan's sex tape. Blackrock Productions has announced that a project revolving around the Hogan/Gawker debacle is happening - and there's already an A-list director on board.
The working title of the film is Conspiracy: Peter Thiel, Hulk Hogan, Gawker, and the Anatomy of Intrigue. Yeah, seriously. I can't wait to hear that aloud at the Oscars. Frances Lawrence, who directed Red Sparrow and the Hunger Games franchise, has been tapped to direct and produce the film, while Charles Randolph, who won an Oscar for his “Big Short”, will handle writing the screenplay.
Per Cinemablend: "The movie is expected to follow several key players in the case. There’s Hulk Hogan, of course, there’s Nick Denton, who founded Gawker, and then there’s Peter Thiel, an investor and entrepreneur from Silicon Valley who donated money to finance the lawsuit against Gawker, hoping to shut the site down after the website outed him as a gay man a few years earlier. The story as a whole is a lengthy and wild one and should make for an entertaining movie."
No word on who will star in the film, but I do hope they have a better camera than the one from the original.
